Custom Blood Magic: Ritual
Some chronicles allow for their players to develop customized powers for their characters. The following is a compilation of player created custom content in OWBN. At this time, custom content that is created and/or used by vampire PC's is required to be listed.
Brute's Wrath(Intermediate Koldunic Ritual)
The Bratovitch, above all, seek power to survive the games and machinations of their family. Drawing upon the wrath of angry spirits, they may kindle their inner fire, increasing their physical capabilities at the cost of their own wellbeing.
System: This ritual requires a Self-Control challenge vs. 3 to activate. Failure means immediate frenzy, and the ritual may not be attempted again the same night. Upon successful activation, for the remainder of the night, the Bratovich may take an unsoakable level of Lethal to gain one of the following benefits: One additional Celerity action for a round, Free ritual retest on Physical challenges for a round, OR the ability to expend 2 more blood for a round. This may be done a number of times per night equal to 1/2 the Bratovich's Permanent Willpower, not to exceed 7.
All benefits last only one round in combat, and only one may be used per round. Outside of combat, this ritual's use is at ST discretion.
Buloke's Varnish
Advanced Ritual
Cost: 6
During the evening of a new moon, the caster crafts an item out of a wood and soaks it in a mixture of Linseed Oil and up to 5 points of his own Vitae, after which he seals it in beeswax. The object gains a rich crimson red color and becomes resistant to incredible amounts of force - gaining resistance to levels of Potence equal to the points of blood used in the Ritual, up to a maximum of Pussiance. The effects of this ritual last for one lunar cycle, after which the ritual must be recast to maintain its effects.
A Shepherd’s duty to protect the land and the dead often calls for aid in their responsibilities. By ritually sacrificing an animal, eating its heart, and burying it within their sacred land, the Shepherd calls forth a Delirium from the depths of the shadowlands to feed on the sacrificed animal and binds the Delirium to the Telyavelic Tremere. The Delirium remains in the shadowlands bound to the Telyav's sacred land and remains loyal to the Telyavelic Tremere so long as it remains fed. A Delirium is a kind of animal wraith; Wraith the Oblivion: Sea of Shadows p. 40
System: after the animal sacrifice, the character gains a Wraith Retainer with the Argos Arcanoi limited to first intermediate common and non guild specific Arcanoi, but uses animal base stats rather than mortal stats as per Wraith the Oblivion: Sea of Shadows p. 40, and may be called forth using Army of Souls (along with appropriate trait expenditures).
Burning the Morning Oil
Created by: Selene Lazarion
Level: Intermediate
Research Pre-requisites: Gift of Morpheus
Effects & Mechanics: A small lamp oil burner is enchanted with this ritual with a flammable infusion of oil and vitae of the caster. When lit, it will aid the thaumaturge instaying awake at full strength further into the morning past sunrise, until the lamp oil is extinguished, not to exceed two hours. As staying awake is a strain on the
thaumaturge's energy, the next evening they will be exhausted from the lack of a full day's sleep. If the thaumaturge remains awake less than an hour past sunrise, the next evening they will be down 1/3 temporary willpower from sundown to sunrise. If the thaumaturge remains awake for more than an hour (but not to exceed two hours) past sunrise, the next evening the they will be down 1/2 temporary willpower from sundown to sunrise. This time may not be used to prepare rituals for the next night and the thaumaturge is still affected by damage from sunlight.
Description:
This ritual clones any creature whose DNA is used. The clone is a perfect replica - it retains the same blood type, creature type, etc (Except for Vampires, they are human). No powers are cloned, and there is no mind or spirit associated with the clone. It takes one night to grow a Clone to full size, and the Clone lasts for up to 30 days without being Preserved or animated in some fashion. The DNA used is NOT destroyed, and can be used for multiple clones until it degrades naturally. The clone is not a sympathetic link to the creature it is a clone for. Theoretically this clone could be used to bring a wraith back to the land of the living, or to house the spirit of a vampire or other creature with powers similar to possession. Any powers used for possession (aka Dominate 5 Possession) follow the normal rules for their working, including duration.
Mechanics:
This creates an identical copy of a body. The body, much like an identical twin, is identical in every way, but not the same creature. It is a clone. It has no memory, no mind, no spirit, and no powers. Vampiric blood creates a human identical to the vampire, but without the vampiric state, as they are dead. The clone is not a sympathetic link to the creature cloned, as it is not the same creature, merely a duplicate copy with no mind or soul created with magic. This ritual costs 10 blood and takes an entire night of casting (8 hours) to complete and grow the clone.
*NB* This cannot be used for a resurrection prop as it is not the same creature. As there is no consciousness or spirit it cannot house a living/unliving spirit outside of the normal bounds for things like Dominate 5 Possession. It cannot be embraced. It can be used to harvest spare body parts like arms and eyes with no chance of rejection for the new user, allowing healers to replace missing limbs, eyes, fingers, etc.
By swearing fealty and tutelage to one of the Lords of Shadow, and Abyss Mystic will granted protection from the Abyss and its powers. The Abyss Mystic ritually bathes in Black Waters, while spilling their blood as sacrifice to the Lords of Shadow. As the blood seeps into the Black Water, the Lords of Shadow whisper to them in a forgotten tongue; granting their blessing.
System: Once cast the Abyss Mystic may choose one ritual of Abyss Mysticism to be immune too for one full night. This ritual does not stack and must be cast again once the time is up.
Saskia and Dr. Cummings tracking ritual:
Cartographer's Eye
Time to complete ritual: 30 minutes
Difficulty: Intermediate
How it works:
The caster holds a pen with the premade ink onto a blank page of papyrus when they initiate casting. The caster must have a photo, personal item, or vitae of target.
The ritual takes 30 minutes of concentration upon the intended subject. If successful, the caster then draws an accurate map of the current location of the subject that can only be seen by the caster. The papyrus will only show incoherent lines to anyone but the caster. If unsuccessful, the lines are also incoherent to the caster.
Ritual is susceptible to misdirection due to the use of Obfuscate: Mask of 1000 faces if the individual who is using Mask of 1000 has burned the appropriate traits to duplicate the exact likeness of the target. The individual traced by the caster is up to ST discretion if there is another individual enacting Mask of 1000 faces in exact duplication of the intended target.
Necessary components:
Papyrus paper:
Can be modern forms or handmade style. Size is unimportant; could be bound into a notebook for sake of ease for the user.
Hand made ink (dark red in color): Prepared before using ritual
- Uses one point of the caster's vitae to create, and the point is not able to be regained by the caster until the completion of the ritual.
- Is made of a mixture of mashed berries, vinegar, salt, and the caster's vitae. (The berry mixture was a commonly used style of ink making for ink pens, and can still be used today)
- Can either be in a quill or modern ink pen.
The item, blood, or photo:
The item that is to be used as an empathetic link to the target is to be burned, and the ashes mixed into the ink before ritual is cast. Blood is just mixed into the ink as is.
Photos are required to have been taken using a camera that predates the 1950’s, and processed using the required techniques employed in a black room for the film styles used at that time. Can not use digitally acquired photographs, nor images printed on modern printers.
Required abilities:
Crafts: Cartography, Photography (if using photographs)
Empathy x1

Cat Hunt (Intermediate - 3)
Before hunting someone or something the cultists gather and appoint a “Cat” the cat is groomed and bathed. Offerings are given (in the form of food, drink, sex, or lashings) and then after a solemn chant and prayer to Lilith they turn on the cat attacking him with ferocity until it is forced to flee. The cat gains a health level, a level of Investigation and an observant trait for the purposes of the hunt. These last until the hunt is complete or the next new moon.
Caveat Emptor (Basic Hermetic Ritual)
It is commonly known that Tremere are not to be trusted, and if the existence of this ritual ever got out, it would only reinforce this belief. When cast, this ritual causes a rush of tangible magical energy to flow over the caster. The only lasting effect of this ritual is that the subject will register as under magical enchantment to powers that sense such effects.
The true power of this ritual comes when used in conjunction with Inscription. The instructions for this simple ritual are easily couched within Inscriptions, causing it to appear as a ritual other than itself to the uninformed observer. Anyone using the inscription who is personally versed in the ritual allegedly inscribed will easily notice the differences and the deception. This particular deception relies entirely upon the subjects lack of knowledge of blood magic.
At storyteller discretion, this ritual may also be used to permanently enchant an object so that it appears enchanted to powers that would detect such, though of course without providing any magical benefit.
Level: Basic
Components:
One bouquet per suitor required to bring Persephone: fresh bouquet (dozen flowers) of white lilies grown in Italian soil and $500 USD of Mother of Pearls, this represents a single very nice pearl to a necklace’s worth.
Mechanics:
Suitors trained in the Necromantic arts host an elaborate dinner and courting experience in the hope of attracting St. Persephone, cousin and Honored Dead, to commune with the participants. A minimum of 2 places must be set for one suitor (Max 7 suitors) and Persephone herself. On her plate will be piled the flowers and Mother of Pearls. If the Ritual is a success her plate’s contents disappear to the shadowland side for her, and returned to her plate are a number of Coins/Persephone’s Favor (Pictured below). These coins must be kept upon the person for the evening of the ritual. If the coin is given/taken away from the suitor the coin decays to ashes and floats away to nothingness.
Gain +2 traits on necromantic magic, except those targeting Ghosts, Spectres or Spirits of the Shadowlands for the remainder of the night. If several necromancers perform the ritual together, they may freely trade willpower points between one another for the rest of the night. During this time, each participant may experience the tactile sensations of another by concentrating for a few seconds and spending a willpower, regardless of the distance. No more than seven suitors can perform this ritual and all suitors must know this ritual to be a suitor.
