Custom Blood Magic: Ritual
Some chronicles allow for their players to develop customized powers for their characters. The following is a compilation of player created custom content in OWBN. At this time, custom content that is created and/or used by vampire PC's is required to be listed.
Based on the Dur-An-Ki ritual commonly known as Warding Baptism, this ritual involves bathing a subject with blood and water poured from a metal bowl with 40 charms attached. For the rest of the night, the subject becomes immune to one path of Blood Magic, designated by the thaumaturgist.

Become One with the Dark Mother (Advanced - 5)
As the Hierophant masters the final levels of ritae, they can gain the ability to pull even further across in to the lands of shadow to touch their gods. The Hierophant opens his mind and soul to the Lilin and the Dark Mother herself, praying to receive their dark blessing and praise. The Hierophant must make the proper sacrifice to the Dark Mother. Only the blood and life of a human who wasted his life with no hope of redemption may be used to create the link necessary to hear the voices of the Lilin. Even then, such things born of darkness are not meant for those that still exist on the other side. Each use causes the Hierophant to lose his mind a little bit more as a price, and seek to join those he worships each time.
System: The Players spends five (5) Blood Traits and must succeed in a Willpower challenge, difficulty 11. If successful, the character immediately gets five (5) Bonus traits to spread amongst his Physical or Mental traits, however he sees fit. In addition, the Character receives a free retest on Discipline-related challenges (for Disciplines they are using, not defending against). Finally, the vampire suffers no penalties from being awake during the day, other than taking damage from sunlight. This ritual lasts a night and, upon each successful use, the character gains a permanent Derangement (decided upon by the Storyteller).
(Intermediate Ritual)
While the Path of Biothaumaturgy allows for a great flexibility is the effects it can achieve, it is limited, much like the Path of Conjuration, with regard to the size and weight of the items created. This ritual gives the biothaumaturge more mass to experiment with. It requires the caster to set up a ritual circle around the central worktable the biothaumurgist uses to make her creations. The ritual circle is created with either shale or sandstone, held together with a mortar made of the other stone and the caster’s blood. After the circle is laid, and the ritual is cast to permanently enchant the circle, the thaumaturge may now, with the expenditure of an additional mental trait (over and above whatever costs or materials are used in Biothaumaturgy), work with creatures up to the size of a horse. Note that this ritual works in conjunction with whatever power of the path the caster is using (so combining this with Lesser Animation will still only allow a single command, but now they can be bigger lesser animations).
This ritual does not in any way alter the path of Biothaumaturgy in any way other than the size of creature that can be used in animating.
By preparing a gold or bronze amulet and marking it with words of power, carved in the secret language of the Abyss (as referenced in One With the Dark), the character creates a trap of sorts that can hold a spirit of the Abyss prisoner. While held, the spirit offers the benefits of some strange power, though should the item be used, the spirit is freed back into the Abyss, where it may well plot revenge.
System - The character brandishes the amulet so that the spirit is made aware of its presence and makes a Mental Challenge against the Spirit, retesting with Occult. If successful, the spirit is bound into the item, which becomes blackened and the Abyssal spirit is unable to escape until the caster or someone else holding the amulet agrees to use the enchanted amulet for its power. When defending against this ritual, the spirit in question may call upon a number of retests equal to its levels of Obtenebration. The benefits of the item should be relatively small, a retest for a challenge, a message delivered, etc that is never more than some minor effect and always one use before the spirit is freed back into the Abyss.
Birth (Intermediate - 4)
Mostly done to celebrate actual births, occasionally it is adapted for the Lhaka to welcome someone new among them. A priestess leads the ritual with midwives tending the mothers. The ritual usually begins at dawn with a casual gathering of the cultists and pregnant mothers, then around noon a more formal creation of the garden takes place and the mothers are anointed, generally in various plant juices and animal blood. At dusk when labor in full swing the gathered Ba’ham begin to sing and chant. Generally all the children are born at once at the height of the ritual. The cult savagely consumes the afterbirth in an orgy of blood and gore, anointing the mothers and babes alike. The women are quick to heal and the participants all remain close to help foster the new babes into the world. Should anyone threaten the new mothers or children during the next full moon cycle the cult members gain the traits Ferocious x3 and Vigilant and their hands and teeth deal an additional level of damage. (This benefit only applies when an actual human baby is threatened, not a new Lhaka)
Birthed in Darkness
(Advanced Abyss Mysticism Ritual)
This ritual was created by an Lasombra Abyss Mystic in their experiments with the Embrace. The Mystic finds a perspective childer and drains them of all their blood within their own Oubliette. From there, the blood drained from the new childer is offered in full to the darkness. After which the Mystic speaks the forgotten tongue to call forth the Abyss into the body of their new childer as they offer them their own blood in the embrace.
System: This ritual guarantees the embrace, regardless of the original status of their living state. They will always rise as a vampire. Additionally, those embraced will be able to and quickly learn Abyss Mysticism.
-Requires Third Eye of Rickard Argentis
The mystic binds an abyssal spirit they have summoned to their shadow by dedicating an item on their person to the creature in question. They must dedicate an object by soaking it in their blood while in the presence of the creature they wish to bind and speaking a name for which you command them by. Once completed, the mystic may then store abyssal spirits within their shadow up to their occult rating. To summon them forth the mystic must be in possession of their dedicated object and speak the name given to the creature summoned.
Intermediate Aljusuri Ritual, Wanga Originally
Using the mastery of the arts of Spirit Thaumaturgy and Spirit Manipulation, the Black Hand member can create a fearsome blade for Caine’s Chosen. The caster calls forth spirits of death and ghosts of those slain by the chosen. A special altar and ornate chalice must be used in performing this ritual. This black altar contains various noddist symbols, blood, and other sacred and ancient herbs used in ritual practice to entice spirits to come forth. Once called forth the caster forces the Ghost and Spirit summoned into the blade before him. Once completed the Blade is then soaked in the blood of the caster and that of the recipient. The blade itself is no larger than a dagger, though it may be any kind of dagger. After the ritual is performed and the blood of the two chosen spilled over the blade, both the caster and recipient must spend 1 permanent Mental Trait to attune the weapon. There after the Blade of the Chosen will respond to its new owner only and the caster will always know the state of the blade itself regardless of distance. Once created the Blade of the Chosen has the following statistics:
Blade of the Chosen
Bonus: 2
Negative Traits: Short
Concealability: Jacket
Damage: 2 Lethal
Special: Spirit Away, Outrage, Chosen
Spirit Away: The owner may reflexively spend 1 Willpower and instantly move to the blade regardless of distance.
Outrage: The Owner may strike Incorporeal beings (aka Mist Form, Tenebrous Form, Blood Form, etc) as if they were solid and in normal material form.
Chosen: This blade may only ever be used by the owner for its above abilities. Additionally, the creator of the blade may spend 1 Willpower and return the blade to his hand from anywhere in the world.
This ritual was based on a passage in the life of São de Bento, where the evil self tried on him, seeking his death. On that occasion, Florencio sent him a poisoned bread, but Bento gave bread to a crow that ate out of his hands every day and ordered the bird to take it away. Florencio, feeling victorious over Bento's death, went out onto the terrace of his house, which collapsed and led to his death.
In this ritual, the magician recreates the story of São Bento by blowing the macula away, depriving the opponent of his evil and victory. A consecrated wafer, a raven's feather and the magus' vitae.
To operate this ritual, the magus chants the exorcism of São Bento (or a banishment otherwise), in addition to drawing the medal of São Bento (or another object with symbolic force that allows this), with the raven feather soaked in his vitae in the wafer (other components can be used with symbolic force), then, once the target has been identified, the Magus must bite into the wafer and blow into the target.
System - The thaumaturge needs a medal of St. Benedict from the Vatican which must have been properly prepared with the exorcism of St. Benedict (A full day of preparation.) The feather must be submerged in 1 blood point, as well as the wafer. When performing the ritual, the thaumaturge must spend 1 willpower, eat the wafer, point the St. Benedict medal at their target, and blow the feather towards the target. Then, the caster makes a Mental Challenge against their target (retest Occult). If successful, the target gains the Negative Traits Distracted x 3, which may be bid against them on any challenge. The number of turns the Negative Traits persist is equal to the caster's occult level, divided by two, rounding down.
Those who serve the Faceless One must honor and empower him. He teaches his followers the secrets and methods to constructing a mystical altar to his glory. Only the must devout to the Path of the Abyss’ teachings are capable of creating the most impressive of altars. These altars contain human sacrifice, bones, blood, black candles and other trinkets to the Faceless One. Unsurprisingly, the most common altars are adorned with the flesh torn faces of mortal victims killed in darkness. These altars are always kept in complete darkness. Sunlight or any light at all causes them to rapidly crumble into dust.
System: This ritual is cast to create a shrine altar to the Faceless One. Once created the character may purchase the Background: Altar presented below. If the Altar of the Mystic is destroyed, they must spend 1 additional blood for all uses of Obtenebration and/or Abyss Mysticism until they can create another.
Altar
This background represents the level of construction, size, and detail of an Abyss Mystic Altar created in dedication to one of the Lord of Shadow. The level of this background that may be purchased has a maximum rating equal to the characters morality rating in the Path of the Abyss. Characters not on the Path of the Abyss may not take this background. This levels of this background represent the size and power of their altar. The character may store blood and willpower into their altar and call upon at any time regardless of the distance from their altar. A character may only ever have one altar at a time.
