Custom Blood Magic: Ritual
Some chronicles allow for their players to develop customized powers for their characters. The following is a compilation of player created custom content in OWBN. At this time, custom content that is created and/or used by vampire PC's is required to be listed.
MET Mechanics:
Required Items:
A Glass Vial, Wood, Stone, Mortar, and Brick
After spending 3 days in a building the caster is already attuned to, the Wood, Stone, Mortar and Brick must be ground to dust and then mixed with two traits of the caster's blood. At this point in time the Caster must also expend 1 Willpower and 3 Mental Traits. One trait of Blood is then ingested and the second trait is put into the already present vial. The ingested trait is unspendable except for use to activate the vial but it does take up one point in the kindred's system.
When the vial is activated by breaking it in the building the caster is attempting to take control of, the blood in it is considered used and disappears. This transferring of attunement is permanent. If the user wishes to move their attunement to another building they must either recast this ritual and move it in that fashion or they must spend the by book required 3 days and nights in the building to transfer attunement.
The Caster may only have one vial of this ritual prepared at a time.
Mirror Aport (Advanced Custom Thaumaturgic Ritual)
This ritual allows the thaumaturge who knows it to enchant a set of two identical mirrors to allow transport from one mirror to the other, regardless of the intervening distance between the paired mirrors.
In order to properly create the sigils and symbols necessary to link the two mirrors requires the following abilities: Occult(x4), and either Sacred Geometry (x2) or Astrology(x2). This allows for greater utilization within the hierarchy, allowing for greater divergence of practical paradigm, as exemplified by the number of Houses currently within the Pyramid.
The sigils and symbols inscribed must be placed as mirrors of one another (up becomes down, right becomes left, so a symbol inscribed in the upper left-hand corner would then be inscribed in the lower right).
The linked mirrors must both be stationary for the link to be established, and for the entire time the link is actively maintained.
To activate the mirror pair, the thaumaturge must successfully cast the ritual “Mirror Walk” (LoE, p.91)
The number of individuals able to travel through the mirrors at any one time at the thaumaturge’s direction is limited to twice the casting thaumaturge’s permanent occult abilities. Each traveler spends a Mental Trait and stepping through the mirror. They will appear in the same position at the other mirror. An intervening object will cause the aportation to fail, though the link is not severed.
The active link may be severed in the following ways:
· The activating thaumaturge may step through the mirror in the same manner, at which point the active link between mirrors ends.
· If either mirror is moved at all, the active link is disrupted, and the process to link the mirrors must be start over from the beginning to re-establish the active link.
· Any damage to either mirror permanently disrupts the enchantment, as the mirrors are no longer reflections of each other. Repairing the mirror does not correct this.
· The activating thaumaturge wills the active link to end.
· Only one set of mirrors can be in use at a time. Any activation of a different set causes the link on any other set to fail.
To create the mirror pair, the thaumaturge must spend an evening, and 10 traits of their vitae to inscribe the sigils and enchant the mirrors. On the item cards for the mirrors, should be listed the creating thaumaturge, the date of enchantment, and a paired, unique ID. For example, “Created by Meerlinda, Jan 1, 2019, Mirror 1 of 2, Set 1AA”
The thaumaturge may only possess a number of active mirror sets equal to their Permanent Willpower/5. Only one set of mirrors can be in use at a time. Any activation of a different set causes the link on any other set to fail (but the mirror set itself remains viable for use later).
If the wording of “Mirror Walk” and “Mirror Aport” conflict, the wording of “Mirror Aport” takes precedence.
System:
Prerequisites: Mirror Walk, Occult Ability (x4), and either Sacred Geometry (x2) or Astrology (x2)
Mirror Attunement: Intermediate Ritual
System: This ritual requires a glass mirror. The caster must etch (properly and with good
craftsmanship, as hieroglyphics are not only a language but a set of magical symbols as
well) into the glass, a border of text. That text being a very lengthy and poetic
description of a soul passing through its own reflection. Then the "mate" of this mirror
must have the exact mirrored set of hieroglyphs etched in by the caster, including any
flaws or extended artistic whim. The caster then paints in, with her vitae, the etched
hieroglyphs (the mirror image reflection on its mate, identically) and brings them 'to
life'. The blood then must be left to dry, in the waxing half‐moon moonlight.
After this preparation these two mirrors ‐ no matter what location, distance, or angle ‐ can be entered by
someone using the ritual "Mirror Walk", and exit out the 'mate' of the mirror entered.
Misfortunes Touch:
Basic Ritual
The caster crushes and pounds an Black Opal into a fine powder mixing it with their blood to make a paste. Each casting of this ritual creates a one use paste. Any one caster may have up to their Occult rating in paste created at a time.
By making a Physical Attack the paste may be applied to an person or wielded object, no test is required for an unattended object or willing person. If it is applied to a person they gain the Negative Trait Clumsy for rounds equal to the casters occult rating, if applied to an object it gains the negative trait Fragile for one scene or hour. Any given object or person may only be affected once until the next sun set. This is limited to one application on a single target and cannot stack with other uses of this power. Also it can only affect an object or person once per scene.
Basic Ritual
Casting time: 10min components: Small piece of copper wire
Effect- You contact a particular creature which you are familiar with and send a short message of 25 words or less to the subject. The subject recognizes you if it knows you. It can answer in like manner immediately. Even if the missive is received, the subject is not obligated to act upon it in any manner. If the subject is not on the same plane of existence as you are, throw a simple test vs 15 traits, if successful the ritual acts as normal, if not the ritual fails. There is no retest for this simple challenge not even luck
Effect: Taking one Oboli (wraith soul coin), and a silver hoop, one pierces the coin with the hoop. The hoop then acts as a divining rod leading the bearer (a gentle tug, does not tug if set down) in the direction of the next closes piece of Oboli made from the same soul. One all eight pieces have been found, the coins can be restored to one piece.
This ritual does not do what it was intended to do, but at least is a very good look into how currency travels throughout the land of the dead. :)
Advanced
Comine your blood, and the blood of someone with the merit 'magic resistant'
Feed this blood to an ash or oak tree every night for a full cycle of the moon. (It only takes a trait per person involved, not a trait each night)
When a stick, stake, or club formed from this tree (only one can be made per casting) contacts someone (other then the caster) actively using blood magic (including rituals, and potency, ect), they stand to loose their blood magic for but a round.
The target can not use any blood magic for one full round, after which they may begin recasting. The stake/stick/club crumbles after one use. For each active power on the target, engage them in a contested willpower challenge to see if that power/ritual drops. Powers lost in this mannor can be recast the following round (but not this one). Rituals lost in this mannor must be recast as normal. (Requiring ritual casting times.)
Mother’s Milk (Intermediate - 3):
The Baharist take a pregnant mother who is starting to lactate. Each participant gives the mother a blood trait. The different Bahari then start to enter into a chant and dance for 1 hour while the mother starts to enter into a blood enriched trance. After the hour is complete, the mother starts to lactate which is then collected. Each Lilin then drinks and passes the cup.
Mechanics: If a number of Baharist perform this ritual together, they may freely trade willpower traits between one another for the rest of the night, regardless of distance. The participants may feel an empathetic communication with one another. This communication is more of a sensation, emotion, and general feelings they are having. The amount of participants is determined by the max willpower of the caster.
Mother’s Roots (Intermediate - 3)
Lilith built a garden of her own and taught herself to master those gifts that God had hoarded for Himself. The followers of the Path of Lilith emulate their mother in that they too plant a garden that shows the power of their mastery over creation.
The Baharist spends a willpower and makes a physical challenge against her target. If successful, the target is enveloped in thorn covered vines. Thereafter the target is trapped and immobilized unless they can win a static physical challenge against the Baharist permanent willpower. Beings trapped in the vines suffer two levels of Lethal damage each turn. This power may ensnare any victim who stands upon the earth within line of sight of the Baharist.
Material Component: A piece of glass, stone, or other piece of the originating location
Casting time: 30 Minutes
Level: Int
When the Tremere seeks to establish a safe location, they can cast this ritual to bring the defenses, that they have cast themselves, of a prior location to the new location. If the ritual fails or succeeds, the rituals will be removed from the originating location
This ritual must first be cast upon the originating location on a piece of it that will be taken to the recipient location.
Mechanics: Mental Challenge retest Architecture Difficulty of 10+the number of defenses on the building.
To activate the transfer, the attuned piece must be brought to the new location and then ground to dust. The dust must then be spread around, though it need not cover the entire location. Once spread, the castor must then summon forth the rituals from the originating location.
Mechanics: Mental Challenge retest Architecture Difficulty of 10+x, where x is a 1-5 scale based on distance from location A to B as well as any other mitigating factors the staff may choose to impose.
As masters of Svdharma many Sadhu have taken to a practice of confusing the wheel of fate in regards to their own truths and destiny. As a key tenant of the Path of Paradox its members attempt to weave lies and deceit to become one with the lies of the universe and seek true enlightenment. Through this ritual a Sadhu can thwart their enemies who seek answers to their secrets by nefarious means. The arts of divination, demon summing or asking other ethereal things for questions on the Sadhu will simply fail. The Sadhu must first ritually bath in the blood of five different individuals while reciting ritual prayer to add the karmic influence of those he bathed into his own. Once complete, and for the remainder of the night, the Sadhu is granted protection to the effects of any supernatural power that grants any information about them that is not directly gotten from the sadhu himself. That is to say rituals such as Video Nefas and Whispers In The Dark, or any similar power simply produce lies and falsehoods on the target, and grant information instead on those whose blood the Sadhu has bathed in; when used to gain information of the vampire under the effects of this ritual. The result of which is often different conflicting information each time someone attempts to use the rituals on the Sadhu as it will randomly grant information based on those blood the Sadhu has bathed in.
