Limit on Coord/ST XP

To prevent any appearance of abuse by those persons who hold positions ofauthority within the OWBN organization, to wit storytellers, narrators, and
coordinators.
The council hereby limits the number of experience points that can be
awarded to persons holding these positions solely because they hold such
position to a maximum of 4 points per month.
Furthermore, the council requires that these experience points be
classified under the attendance category so as not to penalize those
persons holding those positions from earning experience through superior
role playing, costume, goals or other approved methods.
This proposal will not effect those person who are
storytellers/coordinators who earn all their experience points by playing
an approved PC in a chronicle outside their home chronicle only those who
receive
experience based solely upon holding said positions.

New York City, NY - USA, Kings of New York | Against | I'm in inclined to agree with Caught in Twilight. If we cannot trust ourown STs to be fair with XP we probably should start putting every XP expenditure for every character in every game up for Council approval. However, I must admit that I think an 8xp cap is too high in general. But that's a whole different topic. |
Berkeley, CA - USA, Wasting the Dawn | Against | I don't mind the idea, so much as the application. I continue to maintainthat STing should count as non-attendance xp. |
Milwaukee, WI - USA, Nocturnal Rapture | Against | 8xp a month is not a reason to St, But it Sure as hell is a Carrot In frontof our faces. If Our player Bases don't care Why should the rest of Council? |
Tampa, FL - USA, Tampa Bay by Night | Against | This falls squarely under a chronicle's right to handle their own internalaffairs. I've ranted how I don't like Council limiting the power to run the OOC rules of my own game before, and won't do it here. BUt thats Tampa's deal. |
Winona, MN - USA, Winona Dark Haven | Against
Norwalk, CT - USA, Rails of Revolution | For | WbN has always maintained that the STs get 1 XP for each event. Storytelling should be a labor of love. Granting excessive XP to Storytellers invites Storytellers who are not necessarily in it for the game, but rather the experience. After all, what dolt would dare ST if they got nothing for it other than enjoyment? :) I personally wouldn't want an ST who's in it solely for the XP. |
Fargo, ND - USA, Within Shadow's Reach | For | Storytellers should be doing their job because they love it, or love givingenjoyment to those who play, not to gain XP. This is almost as bad as players who don't bother playing in the last game of the month because they've already gotten their 8 XP allowance. It's not about the points... it's about the passion. |
Cincinnati, OH - USA, Shadows of Cincinnati | Against | No way in hell. The storytelleing Staffof Cincinnati travels extensively sothat we can earn the experience we get for our characters. If the roleplaying they all do, including myself is not up to par, then they do not get a max 8 that month. Pure, Simple, and to the point. |
Columbus, OH - USA, Columbus in Darkness | Against | There are so many problems with this proposal that it is not easy to pick astarting place. Here's a few: a) it violates chronicle soverignty. b)what about games that don't have another chronicle close by? c) who says that STs are getting any XP at all? d)why are STs (especially those in the midwest and east coast) playing PCs in their own freaking chronicles? e) do these points apply directly to currently played PCs or can an ST bank them for later use if he/she decides not to play a PC at the current time? ...and on, and on, and on...Let the chronicles handle this. |
Springfield, IL - USA, Capitol City Cauldron | Against | this XP should be allowed to apply to the extra XP beyond attendance |
Washington, DC - USA, Shadows on the Mall | For | I supported this proposal because, primarily, it will get people thinkingon an equitable solution to whether or not ST's should get XP, and if so, how. When I was an ST, I got 2xp a month. That counted towards my 8. Everything else was up to me. I still had to bust my ass for goals, costuming, RP, etc. in the games I played in. That, to me, is fair. Even awarding 4 a month is fair, because you can still make a few games to even out the rest. But 8 a month, automatically awarded, regardless of the games you attend? Man, if that was the deal we had out here, I'd ST forever...but that's not the reason to be a Storyteller, now is it? Trust me, guys, ST's on the East Coast have as rough a time of it as the Midwesteners do...and some of them don't get ANY XP. There's got to be a balance. This proposal is the beginning, not the ending. |
Kenosha, WI - USA, Memento Mori | Against
Gimli, MB - Canada, Sang Nordique | For | I don't mind some sort of reward for Storytellers who need the carrot. Theauto 8 gets my back up a bit. Maybe it's like the Lindy Scarborough/ Archon thing and it's a matter of perception. While I am *sure* that every ST who is granted the auto 8 never abuses the advantage this gives them, I am worried about how it might be perceived... Ok, I'm lying... max xp/month for storytelling is wrong. That's as nice as I can put it. |
Iowa City, IA - USA, L'Ange Noir | Against
Northern Virginia, VA - USA, Night Falls | For | I understand wanting compensation for being an ST. However maxing out onexperience every month just because you're an ST is ridiculous. As for the players not complaining, look how long it took the council to get just ONE person to admit doing it before the vote was called. If we were to truly ask our players how many do you think would see something wrong? Maybe not so much with the fact you get xp for storytelling, but with the fact that you max out each and every month and most of them don't have any idea that you do it. Four xp per month is a balance that rewards you for all the work you do, yet still leaves room for a storyteller to earn points for thier pc like any other OWBN player. |
Annapolis, MD - USA, Vitae Aeternus | Abstain | I don't like the way things are currently done, but I am equally unsurethat this is a solution. I think that we need to give some more thought to this issue and determine what, exactly, the problem is before we come to a solution. |
Edwardsville, IL - USA, Caught in Eternal Twilight | Against | XP is a Chronicle Decision.Leave it that way. |
Chronicle/Position Unknown | For | The only problem I have with this is that it isn't restrictive enough.St's shouldn't be playing characters in thier own games and they sure shouldn't be getting xp for it. ''Conflict of Interest'' For an ST, watching great stories unfold should be it's own reward. |

Chronicle/Position Unknown | Against | There is no reason this issue cannot be resolved at the chronicle level. If we can not trust each other as coordinators and STs, then the organization has unfathomable problems. I, for one, say we can trust each other. |

Chronicle/Position Unknown | Against | As was said during the discussion period on this proposal, this severelypenalizes STs of games that have no other chronicles that they can play in. This would not only affect overseas games, but also some games in the US that have no games within distance to play without going extremely out of their way. |

Chronicle/Position Unknown | For | Some people say this falls into interal issues, but XP caps are an OWBN issue as we all need to be on the same page for XP to keep a balance. So again I do not believe that that agrument stands. For isolated chronicals, what this should mean is that the person STing who shouldnt have a pc in their own game, and can only transfer up to 30 points to a new PC, need to ST longer before they quit STing. Ok so its not that cut and dry, but 4 points a month blanket with the possible addition is for those the can travel and normal earn up to 8 a month. Isolated games do not have the same chance for players to earn such XP. STing in OWBN is a lot of work, I know I've STed for 2 different chronicals. It should be hard to earn 8, and this puts players and ST's on the same foot. Or do you think that ST's are better than players? I think they only do more work. |

Chronicle/Position Unknown | Against | Now that this is clarified more for me at least, I still keep the vote asno. I like ST'ing, but I do NOT and can NOT attend other games, nor can my assistants. We play in our game because we have so little players. When we get more I will stop, but I will still give XP to my assistants. They work just as hard as I do, and deserve the rewards for ST'ing. It's not just a love here people, there is a lot of work too. If some of you love it that much, please give me some of what you are smoking, so I can love it that much. |

Chronicle/Position Unknown | For | While STs should get rewarded for the work they do, I don't think that 8automatic xp per month is fair. XP is supposed to reflect the Experience that the character has - not the workload the player takes on. I've heard too many recent complaints about STs with uber-PCs to sit back and remain silent on this. Players in NZ think that 8 xp per month for *anyone* is silly, and has contributed to the overpowering of OWbN compared to WW and other Independent/Cam Fan Club games - thus it contributes to OWbN's bad reputation in certain circles. See the WW.com chats if you don't know what I'm talking about. |
