Carbondale, IL, USA: Forgotten Court | Against | Good in concept. Poor, poor delivery. |
New York City, NY - USA, Kings of New York | Abstain | as of right now, the staff is divided. |
Iowa City, IA - USA, Fields of Rage | Against
Berkeley, CA - USA, Wasting the Dawn | Against
Milwaukee, WI - USA, Nocturnal Rapture | Against
Duluth, MN - USA, Thicker than Blood | For | Agree with Chicago, it is sad that it has to be done but it must be put in place to begin some form of civility... |
Chicago, IL - USA, Dark Requiem | For | I discussed this with the Chicago playerbase and we feel that it is indeed sad that these rules must be put in place, but if we are to maintain a positive and cooperative attitude throughout the organization, then this should be seen as a prerequisite to that sort of professionalism. |
Fredericksburg, VA - USA, Caine's Chosen: Liberty in Death | For
Indianapolis, IN - USA, Stars Never Rise | For | by a landslid |
Norwalk, CT - USA, Rails of Revolution | For
San Francisco, CA - USA, Always Comes Evening | Against | The player base of ACE is decidely against this. They dislike the language in the preamble. Specifically: the ''legal'' action part. If you're in so much trouble that you're dealing with the authorities we doubt that you'd be overly concerned about OWbN thinks of you. Also the line the laws of the residence of the actor/speaker.'' Like Porn, community standards are not useful when it comes to trying to establish common guidelines. What might be offensive to middle america might not be offensive to Paris. Why is genre in there? Why should open communication only refer to genre? Who is to enforce this? Who is to be the community watchdog? The spirit of this code of conduct is that it will not be abused in personal attacks where one-side will be able to pointedly provoke an attack and then hide behind it, but I see nothing to prevent that other than vague reassurances of the maturity and wisdom of council. Personally, I do feel that a code of conduct is needed in the organization, but I am not convinced that it is this one. Personal responsibility begins at home and I would prefer to see that each chronicle makes it's own code of conduct and personal issues are handled personally. |
Providence, RI - USA, Hidden Flame | Against | While I support the idea of a code of conduct, I don't believe that it should be a bylaw. Honestly, I don't believe you can draw a concrete line where people on one side are acting all right and people on the other side are behaving inappropriately. If something must be added to the bylaws, I think a simple resolution saying ''If the Council feels that a person has stepped far beyond the bounds of propriety in any out of character communication they make, Council may hold that person responsible for said statements by issuing a warning or a strike.'' That way we can look at individual circumstances rather than trying to compare a given incident to a ''template.'' |
Atlanta, GA - USA, Whispers of Atlanta | Abstain | We don't have a problem here that would need such a set of rules. But, we won't vote against since so many other respectable chronicles seem to believe they need it. Reword it, try try again. |
Fargo, ND - USA, Within Shadow's Reach | Against
Cleveland, OH - USA, Carpe Noctum | For
Cincinnati, OH - USA, Shadows of Cincinnati | Against | Great Idea, poor execution. If they are going to be enforceable, they need to have clear definitions of what is and is not expected and/or allowed. Clarity is needed. |
Columbus, OH - USA, Columbus in Darkness | Against | I have to agree with CieT, and Fear of Night. Especially about rushing to the press. This is a great idea, and is much needed. Please, everyone who worked on this, go back and take some more time. This might even be good as our Article Four. |
Springfield, IL - USA, Capitol City Cauldron | For
Washington, DC - USA, Shadows on the Mall | For | The Midnight Ride's comment: ''Do we really need more freaking rules? If we can't be adults, no document is going to make us act our age.'' Has helped sway my decision in favor of this proposal. I don't think we need many more rules in this org either, but since the council seems to feel that if something is not specifically prohibited than we can't/ shouldn't issue discipline for it then measures like this are the only option. In theory we shouldn't have to make rules about not lying, not cheating, and not being an outrageous asshole over an e-mail list. In practice it seems this code of conduct is going to be the only way to get things done. |
Phoenix, AZ - USA, Secundus Surrectum | Against | It is folly to attempt to get adults to act their age through some document. |
Kenosha, WI - USA, Memento Mori | For
Green Bay, WI - USA, Shattered Dreams | Against
Iowa City, IA - USA, L'Ange Noir | Against | If a law cannot be clear then it is simply open to abuse. This is a mission statement, not a rule, but we've still given the ability to punish those who don't follow it. This has no solid basis in anything and so has the terrible likelyhood of just being used to punish those who upset the popular people in OWBN. |
Northern Virginia, VA - USA, Night Falls | For | We have been after something like this for a long time |
Annapolis, MD - USA, Vitae Aeternus | Against | Can't vote in something that has the lines. ''and are not all-inclusive.'' And then ''Violations of this Code may be subject to disciplinary action from both chronicles and Council.'' I can not support anything that says my players could be punished for some unnamed infraction. -Pip |
Edwardsville, IL - USA, Caught in Eternal Twilight | Against | This vote is provisional pending an ST meeting: While this proposal is significantly better than its previous incarnation, we cannot support a CoC with the ''guidelines'' this one has. Likewise we believe the language in the main body is too loose. We encourage Council to reject this proposal in the hope that the authors can compose one which is better defined and tighter. We agree that some standard of behavior is probably desirable, however, given the importance of free speech, we will not accept a proposal that we believe to be inadequate on a theory that something poor is better than nothing. In this matter, we believe that nothing is far supperior to a poorly crafted proposal. |
Chronicle/Position Unknown | For | I am not for this proposal but I have to represent the majority of my game. They are for this. I would like to, though, put forward my feelings of absolute disappointment that we need to put this in paper, for it all should be common sense. |

Chronicle/Position Unknown | Against | Pending ST/player discussion: It took me a while to realize my main problem with this. It keeps being referred to as ''guidlines'' that ''give an idea of expected OOC behavior.'' If that's so, then what we should be adopting is a resolution. The distinction is that a resolution IS a guideline, where as a law (bylaw) is a rigid rule with consequences for deviation. Winona's confusion at the dissent is understandable, but this is a bylaw, complete with a statement that violators recieve disciplinary action. Because of this, Eternal Twilight's concerns about clear and precise language are very relevant. If we want a resolution, let's adopt a resolution; if we want a bylaw, let's adopt a bylaw. Let's NOT adopt one thinking it's the other. |

Chronicle/Position Unknown | For | I honestly don't understand the problem people have with this. We (the committee members, of which I was one) weren't going for an all-inclusive 'Thou shalt not' or legalistic code such as the following:
Sec 9.8.3: Use of all caps: Use of all caps shall be forbidden on any OWBN shared resource, except in the use of specifically recognised acronyms (see section 9.9.1).
No. It's also not a witch-hunt tool. It's a set of guidelines. It gives an idea of expected OOC behaviour on or at OWBN shared resources. That's it. Any punishment will still be (obviously) at the discretion of Council, as it always has been. This is simply a heads-up saying 'This sort of thing is out-of-bounds. Don't do it.' |

LONE | Against | If people choose to misbehave, they already know what will happen. I am against adding MORE rules and Bylaws when we can't even agree on the game we are playing. |

Chronicle/Position Unknown | Against | We know people spent a lot of time working on this proposal but instead of a bylaw, it reads like a very long mission statement. It really should be cut down to a single paragraph that is less vague. Something like,''If someone sends a threatening, or excessivly profain out-of-character email or post to any OWbN email list or message board they are subject to to disciplinary actions by the OWbN council up to and including a strike or probation. Continued violations of this article can result in expulsion from OWbN.'' |
