This is being proposed with No Legacy.
This proposal has the potential to autopass.
Rationale:
This is something I mentioned in my discussion on OWBN Glass Council and elsewhere during elections. A quick explanation of Siochain (or Síocháin if you’re feeling pedantic): They are referenced in a couple places in C20, starting off with a small blurb in the C20 Core Book, page 47, where it states “Legend speaks of faerie nobles that have achieved the impossible and found the delicate balance between their mortal selves and the fae souls within,” and goes onto explain that many people don’t even think they exist, which we all know is bait. Chapter 4 in the C20 Player’s Guide goes into much deeper detail, giving PCs playable mechanics and a road for becoming Siochain.
Essentially, there may only be one Siochain of any given concept (a mantle) at one time. This proposal seeks to ensure that we maintain that in OWbN, by having the Changeling Coordinator work with PCs and staff to create mantles for Siochain that are unique, and ensuring that Siochain Mantles are logged under the Archivist’s Office to prevent duplicates.
Regarding Disallowed PC Types: Chapter 4 in the Player’s Guide is very clear that this is for Changelings, starting with the following quote in the beginning:
“The Changeling Way allows the Kithain to survive. Through the magic of this ancient rite, faerie cleverness flouts the cruelties of time and, in new contexts, stories bloom perennial. Yet for all its power, the Way is not without its cost. Glimmering but fragile, a changeling is a dream too bright to last. Bedlam and Banality wear away the soul and, sooner or later, almost every changeling is Undone. Almost every changeling.”
It then goes on to explain that Siochain step outside the Changeling way, and are a perfect fusion of mortal and fae. PC types which undergo the Changeling Way or some variant, such as Kithain, Menehune, Nunnehi and Thallain, are therefore “Siochain-able”. Adhene, Hsien, and Inanimae never undergo the Changeling Way. They are outside of that process entirely.
Regarding No Legacy: This is to ensure that if we already have two PCs with the same Siochain mantle, we can adjust Mantles as needed. I do not plan to deny any of the above allowable PC types who already have the Siochain mantle, but adjustments may be required if we have duplicate mantles.
