Introduction and Background:

Greetings one and all! I'm Dylan Guerrero. Some of you may know me as the player of the PC known as Addler (Anarch Vampire). Most of you probably don't know me, and that's ok!

I've been playing in the Org since 2005ish. I spent a good amount of time playing Camarilla, but have found the Anarch Genre to be a lot of fun in recent years. Besides playing, I've been a part of my home chronicle since 1998 and an ST for my local chronicle almost non-stop since 2012.

I've never really done the sub-coord or coord thing, but I've spent a great deal of time on Council. I figure that I should jump into the deep end of the pool and attempt to give back to the organization that has been a large part of my life for the last 20 or so years.

Saudações a todos! Meu nome é Dylan Guerrero. Alguns de vocês devem me conhecer como o jogador do PC conhecido como Addler (Anarch Vampire). A maioria de vocês provavelmente não me conhece, e tudo bem!

Jogo na Org desde 2005. Passei um bom tempo jogando Camarilla, mas descobri que o gênero Anarquista é muito divertido nos últimos anos. Além de jogar, faço parte da minha crônica local desde 1998 e sou ST da minha crônica local quase ininterruptamente desde 2012.

Na verdade, nunca fiz a coisa de subcoord ou coord, mas passei muito tempo no Conselho. Eu acho que deveria pular no fundo da piscina e tentar retribuir à organização que tem sido uma grande parte da minha vida nos últimos 20 anos ou mais.

Personal Statement:

Like many of you, I've seen a lot of changes in our organization since my first introduction to it. People have been saying since I first joined, and it's still correct. Our organization is and has always been in a state of change. Sometimes those changes have taken longer than others. Sometimes they were very necessary, and other times we've taken steps backwards. I can't count the number of times I've heard this or that thing is going to kill our org once and for all. Happily, we have always weathered those storms and have managed to progress forward. Let's face is, we're all a bunch of gamer nerds. We're known to have strong opinions on things, have hills we're willing to die on and at times can be as cliquish as any other social group or tribe out there. In essence, we're all people. I think that's something we often forget when we get into the weeds of mechanics, play styles, immersion, what is "genre" and a number of other things. In that regard, I see the new position of Mediation Coordinator as a way to bridge our differences, as well as help build a better and more inclusive community for everyone.

Como muitos de vocês, tenho visto muitas mudanças em nossa organização desde a minha primeira introdução a ela. As pessoas têm dito desde que entrei, e ainda está correto. Nossa organização está e sempre esteve em um estado de mudança. Às vezes, essas mudanças demoram mais do que outras. Às vezes eles eram muito necessários e outras vezes demos passos para trás. Não consigo contar quantas vezes ouvi que isso ou aquilo vai matar nossa organização de uma vez por todas. Felizmente, sempre resistimos a essas tempestades e conseguimos progredir. Vamos ser sinceros: somos todos um bando de gamers nerds. Somos conhecidos por ter opiniões fortes sobre as coisas, temos colinas nas quais estamos dispostos a morrer e às vezes podemos ser tão clichês quanto qualquer outro grupo social ou tribo por aí. Em essência, somos todos pessoas. Acho que isso é algo que muitas vezes esquecemos quando entramos no assunto de mecânica, estilos de jogo, imersão, o que é “gênero” e uma série de outras coisas. Nesse sentido, vejo o novo cargo de Coordenador de Mediação como uma forma de colmatar as nossas diferenças, bem como de ajudar a construir uma comunidade melhor e mais inclusiva para todos.

Goals:

With this election cycle being the first for the Mediation Coordinator position, I feel that it is vital the team hits the ground running and provides a solid foundation for the position's future. Our first team is going to be the ones who set the standard. In my opinion this is something everyone should be mindful of when deciding who they vote for. The question of what kind of future does our org want from this office will certainly evolve over time, but the importance of our first choices will definitely set a bar. To that end, here's what I'm initially thinking needs to be done and what I would like to accomplish. 

- I would like for our team to design a standardized google form for submitting a request to the Mediation team for arbitration that can be filed and stored for historical reference.

-I would like to establish an understanding for the entirety of the process and present it to Council, ST's and players so that they have an understanding, or easy access to learning how a given process for the Mediation team works and what steps need to be taken by all parties.

-I would like to review and have proposed whatever changes are found to be necessary by the Mediation team, Council and the Executive Team for the office of Mediation Coordinator to be more effective throughout the Mediation process.

-I would like to codify that the Mediation team has the authority and ability to reach out to the other partie(s) that are potentially involved in the mediation. I've personally seen instances where mediation was requested by one party, but the other party was never notified for mediation and the issue was closed with the uninformed party never knowing that the request was made. 

-I would like to come up with a system for regular reporting to Council regarding current mediations in process. Naturally confidentiality would need to be maintained during this reporting process. 

-I would like to review the Code of Conduct and determine the best way to utilize it as a resource for the Mediation Team for a given conflict. To that end, I would also like to work on removing the stigma that this can be weaponized. This may require a review and rewrite of the Code of Conduct. That is something that I feel would be best discussed by Council, though I also feel that a wide workshopping of any proposed changes among the HST's of chronicles across our Org would be beneficial. 

-I would like to find ways to balance our DA process. By this I mean that time and again we've had instances where people have not come forward with justified allegations for fear of being drug through a gauntlet. There have also been instances where the opposite has occurred. As an organization, I feel that we can and NEED to do better. I think the Mediation team will be uniquely positioned to find ways to do so. 

-I would like to work heavily with the Brazilian members of the Mediation team to continue the hard work that has been done in the past and needs to continue. By this I mean that we need to be more cognizant of their concerns and issues. Our org needs to be better at responding to these issues and hearing them, rather than just listening. We also need to become more understanding of cultural differences, tone and language usage. 

I know that this is a lot and I can't guarantee that all these things will be completed. I feel like it's an aggressive agenda, but these items are certainly important to me and I feel like they're also important to the growth of our organization.

-Eu gostaria de criar um sistema de relatórios regulares ao Conselho sobre as mediações atuais em andamento. Naturalmente, a confidencialidade teria de ser mantida durante este processo de comunicação.

-Gostaria de revisar o Código de Conduta e determinar a melhor forma de utilizá-lo como recurso para a Equipe de Mediação em um determinado conflito. Para esse fim, gostaria também de trabalhar na remoção do estigma de que isto pode ser transformado em arma. Isso pode exigir uma revisão e reescrita do Código de Conduta. Isso é algo que considero que seria melhor discutido pelo Conselho, embora também ache que seria benéfico um amplo workshop sobre quaisquer alterações propostas entre as crônicas do HST em nossa organização.

-Eu gostaria de encontrar maneiras de equilibrar nosso processo de DA. Com isto quero dizer que repetidamente tivemos casos em que as pessoas não apresentaram alegações justificadas por medo de serem drogadas através de um desafio. Também houve casos em que ocorreu o oposto. Como organização, sinto que podemos e PRECISAMOS fazer melhor. Acredito que a equipe de mediação estará em uma posição única para encontrar maneiras de fazer isso.

-Gostaria de trabalhar fortemente com os membros brasileiros da equipe de mediação para continuar o trabalho árduo que foi feito no passado e precisa continuar. Com isto quero dizer que precisamos de estar mais conscientes das suas preocupações e questões. Nossa organização precisa responder melhor a essas questões e ouvi-las, em vez de apenas ouvir. Também precisamos nos tornar mais compreensivos com as diferenças culturais, o tom e o uso da linguagem.

Eu sei que isso é muito e não posso garantir que todas essas coisas serão concluídas. Sinto que é uma agenda agressiva, mas esses itens são certamente importantes para mim e sinto que também são importantes para o crescimento da nossa organização.
