Custom Combination Discipline / Technique

Prerequisites: Armory of the Abyss, Potence 5, Celerity 2, Abyssal Lore 3

 

Shadow Lathe allows for the creation of tool-like appendages to be formed instead of the blunt weapons of Arms of the Abyss.  While not having any use in combat, these tool appendages serve many purposes.

 

1: For 1 blood, the lasombra can create proper tools for any skill that would normally require tools.  These tools last until sunrise and provide bonus traits equal to the Abyssal Lore ability to the skill check when using the tools.  

 

Example:  Alexander needs to pick a lock.  He spends 1 blood, and creates a number of small shadow tentacles allowing him to have proper tools to pick the lock.  The Storyteller determines that it's a very well designed lock, and will require a test against 17 traits.  Alexander makes a test with his mental traits (13) and adds his Abyssal Lore to his mental triats for this test (5).  He ties against the ST, and compares traits.  He is able to open the lock.

 

2: If used for an extended challenge (such as the crafting of a weapon or painting a picture) it provides the same advantage of traits as above, but also cuts the crafting time in half.  If this effect is used, the end effect of the crafting will have a decidedly shadowy effect upon it.  Paintings will appears to be set in twilight or darkness with deep shadows, weapons or armor will have a deep blue/black effect to them and items crafted of cloth will have thier color darken by several shades to jet black.  This does not affect the crafting level, but may have other effects at the decision of the storyteller such as:

 

A: +2 Trait on Stealth Challenges (for clothing or armor crafted in this way)

B: Double base damage vs. Obtenebation effects (such as arms of the abyss) or people under the effect of Obtenebration 4 or 5.

 

Notes:  These effects can only be applied to a item as it is created, and only by the person creating the item.  Items not created by and with this power cannot have these effects added to them in any way.  Items created in this way are always considered personal items and can be used against the creator as such by other blood magic powers.
