Introduction and Background:
Hello, everyone. What’s good? My name is David Lightner, I am from Georgia, and I am applying to be one of the Assistant Head Coordinators. I believe in hospitality and giving back to the game and organization that has entertained me for the last sixteen years.
I am an avid foodie. I love to cook and home brew. From hot sauce with peppers from my garden, mead made with local honey, and hard cider made with apples from the local orchards. My friends and family cherish these gifts for the holidays. I have shared almost all of it. I love new technologies that add finesse to the meal I am going to share with friends and family. I have crafted feasts with everything from sous vide to multiple green egg smokers. With several years of hosting “Friendsgiving” under my belt, I know how to serve a crowd of friends. It’s a personal goal to provide crud protection and sustenance at events I go to. At Blood & Ice I always have Emergen-C, water, fruit, and string cheese to share. The “Foodie Cabin”, as it’s been dubbed at the Anarch Event is part of my attitude of service as well.
That methodology of hospitality has crossed over into my larp experience. I have been an avid larper since September of 2003. I started in a dark fantasy boffer and that lasted for over a dozen years before I altered my schedule for my current career. I spent more than eight years on their clean-up crew and five on their security team. Leaving the campsites cleaner than we arrived made us welcome guests at the state park month after month. Making sure the rangers and not just the players had a trusted group of people they could count on to feel safe and secure in any circumstance was a big part of giving back and being a community. I am willing to offer support to the office of Head Coordinator in a similarly effective manner.

Olá a todos. Tudo bem? Meu nome é David Lightner, sou da Geórgia e estou me candidatando a uma das vagas de Coordenador Assistente. Acredito na importância da hospitalidade e em retribuir ao esporte e à organização que me divertem há dezesseis anos.
Sou um apaixonado por gastronomia. Adoro cozinhar e fazer cerveja artesanal em casa. Desde molho de pimenta com pimentas da minha horta, hidromel feito com mel local e sidra com maçãs de pomares da região. Meus amigos e familiares adoram esses presentes de Natal. Já compartilhei quase tudo. Adoro novas tecnologias que dão um toque especial às refeições que vou compartilhar com amigos e familiares. Já preparei banquetes usando de tudo, desde sous vide até vários defumadores Green Egg. Com vários anos de experiência como anfitrião de jantares de Ação de Graças entre amigos, sei como servir uma multidão. É um objetivo pessoal oferecer proteção contra doenças e garantir que todos se alimentem bem nos eventos que frequento. No Blood & Ice, sempre ofereço Emergen-C, água, frutas e queijo tipo string cheese para compartilhar. A “Cabana Gastronômica”, como foi apelidada no Evento Anarquista, também faz parte da minha filosofia de serviço.
Essa metodologia de hospitalidade se estendeu à minha experiência em LARP. Sou um ávido jogador de LARP desde setembro de 2003. Comecei em um LARP de fantasia sombria, que durou mais de uma década antes de eu mudar minha rotina para minha carreira atual. Passei mais de oito anos na equipe de limpeza e cinco na equipe de segurança. Deixar os acampamentos mais limpos do que quando chegamos nos permitia receber bem os visitantes do parque estadual mês após mês. Garantir que os guardas florestais, e não apenas os jogadores, tivessem um grupo de pessoas confiáveis com quem pudessem contar para se sentirem seguros em qualquer circunstância era uma parte importante de retribuir e fazer parte da comunidade. Estou disposto a oferecer apoio ao escritório do Coordenador Geral de maneira igualmente eficaz.

13 years of car sales and 8 years of management experience in a high intensity, customer centric, monthly goal-driven industry.
4 years in a public trust position, including a 10-year background check by the federal government under the Department of Education preceded my current career.
Maintained, curated, and interacted with a customer database; managed templates, letters, and email correspondence with thousands of customers.
The automotive industry is customer service and consultant-based commission sales for usually the second largest purchase to buying a home. Being able to understand motivations, translating body language and unspoken queues, and understanding the difference between statements, objections, and questions are crucial instincts that have been honed for over a decade and a half.
Understanding Microsoft 365, including Word and Excel for tracking data and documentation has been a boon in my personal career.

13 anos de experiência em vendas de automóveis e 8 anos de experiência em gestão em um setor de alta intensidade, focado no cliente e com metas mensais.
Quatro anos em um cargo de confiança pública, incluindo uma verificação de antecedentes de 10 anos pelo governo federal, vinculada ao Departamento de Educação, antecederam minha carreira atual.

Personal Statement:
My modus operandi for LARP has always been: Keep in character and out of character separate, play by the honor system, and abide by the spirit of the rules. I will keep that as my compass during any term of office that I hold and, because it remains a constant echo in my mind, "trust but verify" (thanks Gabi).
What I have learned as a Sub-Coord since 2024: Assume no malice, trust yet verify, and always work towards a de-escalation. Tone does not translate through text, so clarify before any misunderstanding taints the message.
Cultural differences between North America and South America exist, I will make an effort to try to understand where everyone is coming from.
Personal Statement (Portuguese):
Meu modo de operar no LARP sempre foi: manter o personagem e a vida fora dele separados, jogar com base na honra e respeitar o espírito das regras. Manterei isso como minha bússola durante qualquer mandato que eu exercer e, como permanece um eco constante em minha mente, "confiar, mas verificar" (obrigado, Gabi).
O que aprendi como Sub-Coordenador desde 2024: não presumir malícia, confiar, mas verificar, e sempre trabalhar para uma desescalada. O tom não se traduz por texto, então esclareça antes que qualquer mal-entendido prejudique a mensagem.
Existem diferenças culturais entre a América do Norte e a América do Sul, e farei um esforço para tentar entender a perspectiva de todos.
Goals:
Support the Head Coordinator to the best of my ability while maintaining boundaries including office hours to accomplish any of the tasks the team may have under my purview. Provide support to the organization where appropriate and within my scope of responsibility. While I am in a support role, the accomplishments from my 2024 application goals were almost completely met, exceeded, or are currently in progress. I will continue this into the 2026 term.
The issues I want to help address as expressed by the Org at large:
I will personally work to support and hold the HC accountable so long as I hold this position.
Adherence to Bylaw, we are governed by one body as one body. The rules must be fair and conducive to a safe environment. Minimization of contradiction through productive interpretation is something I can bring to the team.
Brazilian Inclusion in OWBN at large, as an equal, is important to me. Therefore, I will be working with the HC to acquire and implement better tools to address issues that come from the language barrier and cultural differences. Better recognition of perspectives from other parts of the world makes for a better game and shared story.
Responding to critical issues with tact and a level head in every instance must happen. Problems presented can’t be ignored and require a solution. There is a limited scope of power in this office so creativity and communication will be required to be as impactful as possible.
Accessibility, Equity, and Inclusion. Exec will review and address when unfair practices are brought to their attention. This is a shared game with players from all walks of life and corners of the globe, everyone deserves their opportunity to have their story told within the boundaries of genre and Bylaw.
Real life comes first. There is no such thing as a game emergency. That said, a lot of problems come from not maintaining office hours and boundaries. With those established and effectively communicated, much more can be accomplished because it can be expressed to the team where and when you need help. The gaps can be filled and cohesion as well as effectiveness can be maintained.
Games eligibility to vote and compliance. This deserves a closer look. This team will make it a priority.
Confidentiality and maintaining public trust of the office. This office requires trust to be effective. I will ensure that I am not part of the problem, and I will keep all confidences if elected.
Approachability of the HC office as administrators and problem solvers, not just discipline and adjudication. I will maintain office hours once the scope of my responsibilities are assessed. I approach everyone with an open mind, and I will attempt to see the perspective of all parties involved.

Apoiar o Coordenador Geral da melhor forma possível, respeitando os limites, incluindo o horário de expediente, para concluir quaisquer tarefas que a equipe possa ter sob minha responsabilidade. Prestar apoio à organização quando apropriado e dentro do meu escopo de responsabilidade. Embora eu esteja em uma função de apoio, as metas da minha candidatura para 2024 foram quase totalmente atingidas, superadas ou estão em andamento. Continuarei com esse trabalho no mandato de 2026.
As questões que quero ajudar a abordar, conforme expressas pela organização em geral:
Trabalharei pessoalmente para apoiar e responsabilizar o Coordenador Geral enquanto ocupar este cargo.
A adesão ao Estatuto Social é importante, pois somos governados por um único órgão. As regras devem ser justas e propícias a um ambiente seguro. Minimizar contradições por meio de interpretações produtivas é algo que posso trazer para a equipe.
A inclusão de brasileiros na OWBN em geral, como um igual, é importante para mim. Portanto, trabalharei com o Coordenador Geral para adquirir e implementar melhores ferramentas para lidar com questões decorrentes da barreira linguística e das diferenças culturais. Um melhor reconhecimento das perspectivas de outras partes do mundo contribui para um jogo melhor e uma história compartilhada mais rica.
É imprescindível responder a questões críticas com tato e serenidade em todas as situações. Os problemas apresentados não podem ser ignorados e exigem uma solução. O poder neste cargo é limitado, portanto, criatividade e comunicação serão necessárias para maximizar o impacto.
Acessibilidade, Equidade e Inclusão. A Diretoria analisará e tomará as medidas cabíveis quando práticas injustas forem levadas ao seu conhecimento. Este é um jogo compartilhado com jogadores de todas as origens e cantos do mundo; todos merecem a oportunidade de ter sua história contada dentro dos limites do gênero e do Estatuto.
A vida real vem em primeiro lugar. Não existe emergência no jogo. Ditoisso, muitos problemas surgem da falta de cumprimento de horários e limites. Com esses parâmetros estabelecidos e comunicados de forma eficaz, muito mais pode ser alcançado, pois é possível comunicar à equipe quando e onde precisar de ajuda. As lacunas podem ser preenchidas e a coesão e a eficácia podem ser mantidas.
Elegibilidade dos jogadores para votação e conformidade. Isso merece uma análise mais detalhada. Esta equipe dará prioridade a isso.
Confidencialidade e manutenção da confiança pública no gabinete. Este gabinete precisa de confiança para ser eficaz. Garantirei que não farei parte do problema e manterei todas as confidências se for eleito.
Acessibilidade do gabinete do HC como administradores e solucionadores de problemas, não apenas como disciplinadores e julgadores. Manterei horário de atendimento assim que o escopo das minhas responsabilidades for avaliado. Abordo todos com a mente aberta e tentarei compreender a perspectiva de todas as partes envolvidas.
