2022 - Sabbat - Matt Armitage
Introduction and Background:
Hello everyone, my name is Matt Armitage. I have been playing in OWBN for roughly 14-15 years, somewhere in that range, which is to say a while! Additionally I have been playing TTRPGs, Board Games, Card Games, and have had Gaming as a general hobby for going on twenty five years now. When I joined the Org I was a young kid, still learning the ropes of what it meant to operate in adult spaces and grappling with maturing from being a know it all teen, to a know it all twenty something, to a guy who knew nothing at all in my mid twenties, to now! I am approaching my mid thirties and I think now… maybe… I know a few things?
I literally grew up in the Org as much as it could be considered, and became who I am with the Org around me as both a measuring tool and a guide post. The friendships I have made here, the experiences I have had, have all been a huge and fundamental part of the person I have become. It is for those very reasons that I want to step up and take a more active role in the way this Org plays, namely, in the way The Sabbat is handled and addressed within our Org.
I love the Sabbat, more than any other genre in WoD, Sabbat really speaks to me. The intense focus on interpersonal conflict as represented in packs or a given city, the inner turmoil represented in morality and paths, and the ever present looming fear one has to grapple with in the face of knowing the end times are upon you. It is the very best of some of my favorite themes in gaming and horror. I firmly believe that the Sabbat has become the flagship for gaming in OWBN, and I want to hold it to that standard.
Below you will find my application, it will contain some hard info and my first and second year goals if I am elected to the position. While it is no longer required, I am also including some names of people who have initially supported me in stepping up for this role, and who approved me tossing their names onto my app. Thank you to those who believe I can make this happen and know that I will see it through to the very best of my ability.

Olá a todos, meu nome é Matt Armitage. Eu tenho jogado no OWBN por aproximadamente 14-15 anos, em algum lugar nessa faixa, o que quer dizer um tempo! Além disso, tenho jogado TTRPGs, jogos de tabuleiro, jogos de cartas e tenho o jogo como um hobby geral há vinte e cinco anos. Eu literalmente cresci na Org tanto quanto poderia ser considerado, e me tornei quem eu sou com a Org ao meu redor como uma ferramenta de medição e um posto de guia. As amizades que fiz aqui, as experiências que tive, foram uma parte enorme e fundamental da pessoa que me tornei. É por essas mesmas razões que quero intensificar e ter um papel mais ativo na forma como esta Org atua, ou seja, na forma como o Sabá é tratado e tratado dentro de nossa Org.
Eu amo o Sabá, mais do que qualquer outro gênero no WoD, o Sabá realmente fala comigo. O foco intenso no conflito interpessoal representado em matilhas ou em uma determinada cidade, a turbulência interna representada na moralidade e nos caminhos, e o medo sempre presente que se tem que enfrentar diante de saber que o fim dos tempos está sobre você. É o melhor de alguns dos meus temas favoritos em jogos e terror. Acredito firmemente que o Sabbat se tornou o carro-chefe dos jogos no OWBN, e quero mantê-lo nesse padrão.
Abaixo você encontrará minha inscrição, ela conterá algumas informações concretas e minhas metas de primeiro e segundo ano se eu for eleito para o cargo. Embora não seja mais necessário, também estou incluindo alguns nomes de pessoas que inicialmente me apoiaram para assumir essa função e que aprovaram que eu lançasse seus nomes no meu aplicativo. Personal Statement:
“We are One World By Night; a Community of collaborative story-telling, aiming to explore stories of triumph, loss, and the human soul. We are not just an organization of games and gamers, we are a Community of storytellers, together.“ This statement will be my governing principle for my tenure, as it has been during my time as HST and as it has been even before I had these words to express my intent. Collaborative storytelling, together, as a community. That will always be my goal and my promise.
I have had a consistent and amazing time with the Sabbat Genre, so much so that I want to give back to the Org by taking on the weight and tasks that come with running the office. I have been very happy with how previous Coord Teams have run Sabbat, and I have traveled around the Org to hear people's frustrations with both past and present Teams. It is my hope that armed with personal insight, the wisdom of my friends, and the support of previous Teams and my future Team, that we can really do something great here!
I want to commit to response times, approve/deny times, and activity amongst my teams as being the most important part of my tenure. It would be impossible to be a one person army as Sabbat Coord. Between the factions, cults, and secret societies alone; we need people, and dedicated people at that, to manage it all. It will be my primary goal to bring in the best talent I can find to make sure that we can be committed to those important pieces of a successful tenure that I want to focus on.
I want to encourage recruitment both from within the Org and from outside. I want to help us get to the other side of the Pandemic and back to live action event games. More than anything, I want to tell some fun stories and ensure that people are enjoying themselves, even if we have to make hard calls that result in the conclusion of character stories. It will always be my goal in any such situation to ensure that if a character's book needs to be closed, that it will be closed gracefully, and with the opportunity to open up a new one afterwards.
I know the position of a Genre Coordinator can be tough, even more so the over Coord positions like Anarch, Camarilla, or Sabbat who are asked to not just manage their Genre, but work hand in hand with other Coords to share resources and experience. It will be important that I am able to make sure I am understood while likewise understanding. I am very experienced with managing online tone, and will be willing to make good use of my time to provide alternative options for mediation such as Discord Voice, Phone Calls, or more if text seems to be failing. I am confident that my tenure will be capable of handling these difficulties and more than that, I will remain open to ideas on how to improve in areas that my supporters, detractors, and peers might find me lacking in.

“Nós somos um mundo à noite; uma Comunidade de contar histórias colaborativas, com o objetivo de explorar histórias de triunfo, perda e a alma humana. Não somos apenas uma organização de jogos e jogadores, somos uma comunidade de contadores de histórias, juntos.” Esta declaração será meu princípio governante para meu mandato, como tem sido durante meu tempo como HST e como tem sido antes mesmo de eu ter estas palavras para expressar minha intenção. Contação de histórias colaborativa, juntos, como uma comunidade. Esse sempre será meu objetivo e minha promessa.
Eu tive um tempo consistente e incrível com o gênero Sabbat, tanto que quero retribuir à Org assumindo o peso e as tarefas que acompanham a administração do escritório. Fiquei muito feliz com a forma como as Equipes Coord anteriores administraram o Sabá, e viajei pela Org para ouvir as frustrações das pessoas com as Equipes passadas e presentes. É minha esperança que, armados com uma visão pessoal, a sabedoria de meus amigos e o apoio de equipes anteriores e minha futura equipe, possamos realmente fazer algo grande aqui!
Quero me comprometer com tempos de resposta, tempos de aprovação/negação e atividade entre minhas equipes como sendo a parte mais importante do meu mandato. Seria impossível ser um exército de uma pessoa como Sabbat Coord. Apenas entre as facções, cultos e sociedades secretas; precisamos de pessoas, e pessoas dedicadas, para gerenciar tudo isso. Será meu principal objetivo trazer os melhores talentos que puder encontrar para garantir que possamos nos comprometer com as partes importantes de um mandato de sucesso em que quero me concentrar.
Quero incentivar o recrutamento tanto de dentro da organização quanto de fora. Quero nos ajudar a chegar ao outro lado da Pandemia e voltar aos jogos de eventos de ação ao vivo. Mais do que tudo, quero contar algumas histórias divertidas e garantir que as pessoas se divirtam, mesmo que tenhamos que fazer escolhas difíceis que resultem na conclusão das histórias dos personagens. Sempre será meu objetivo em qualquer situação desse tipo garantir que, se o livro de um personagem precisar ser fechado, ele será fechado com elegância e com a oportunidade de abrir um novo depois.
Eu sei que a posição de um Coordenador de Gênero pode ser difícil, ainda mais os cargos de Coord como Anarquista, Camarilla ou Sabbat, que são solicitados não apenas a gerenciar seu Gênero, mas trabalhar lado a lado com outros Coords para compartilhar recursos e experiência. Será importante que eu seja capaz de me certificar de que sou entendido, ao mesmo tempo que compreendo. Goals:
Below is my outline for year 1 and year 2 of my tenure and then a summation of my goals to close us out with.
On the topic of teammates: I will be open to hearing conversations about problematic people if they indeed end up on my Team, and I will use my position to address realistic concerns and troubles and work closely with the new Exec team to ensure that such things are investigated fully.
Tenure Year 1
Take control of all aspects of the Sabbat Coord position (Gmail Accounts, Google Groups, OWBN R&U Pages, Documents, and all associated accounts.)
Eliminate clutter and overlap in these categories where it is not enabling/serving to streamline some kind of process.
Respectfully and politely fire the entire Sabbat Coord staff. We will then immediately hold invitations and applications for new Sub-Coord and Team Leads. Anyone fired who wants back on and has a track record of positive activity, will be welcomed back with open arms. Shane has agreed to stay on as a Legacy SubCoord for the beginning of my tenure but will be taking a large backstep when it comes to Org activity.
Once my teams are filled back out with a reasonable but conservative number of active and attentive sub-coords, begin addressing any outside issues. This includes Exec team disputes/ongoing cases, approvals, limbo requests, and pending issues.
Work to see Team Sabbat’s vision fulfilled by finishing out the packet he and his team have been working on for the better part of 2 years.
Begin tackling Year 2 concerns as available.
Tenure Year 2
Continue the work on anything not resolved in Year 1.
Poll current Sabbat games (and use existing metadata) for current feelings on Global Plots being run at storyteller and Coord levels.
Create a plan for a new Org plot if there is demand for one.
Address secret societies in terms of active plots, upcoming plots, and what the players want to see run. (TMR, Lilians, Infernalists, Black Hand, Inquisition, and other Cult/Faction Groups)
Ride the wave into greatness, because if we have accomplished everything to that point? We will have a well oiled machine and just be firing on all cylinders.

Wow, that's a lot of typing I did there. I have always been a bit verbose in my desire to explain my situation. I want this application to speak for itself and my earnest desire to take the reins on this thing that I love, and continue to share it with this Org I have called my home for so long. I will promise to be open to criticisms, attentive to my tenure, attentive to my constituents, and to continue to provide a welcoming and safe place to explore this dark content we all enjoy.
