Position Sought: Anarch Coordinator

Your OWbN/Gaming/Administrative Background:
I have been playing off and on in OWBN since about 1997 when I started playing in Champaign-Urbana as a Nosferatu spy named Boxcar Willie. From their I played in Chicago and was fortunate to tour the Midwest and I was able to form a deep appreciation for this Org through countless hours of intense role-playing with some of the best gamers I have ever had the pleasure to play with. Then, my work schedule completely shifted and I could no longer play in any of the Org games, but I found an independent LARP that played on Sundays that I could attend. I became the HST for the game when the creators stepped down and I ran it successfully for half a year until I married my wife (whom I was fortunate enough to meet at the game). That game which I renamed Shadows Of The Jewel, was brought into the org by my successor. I continued to play in the game for several years and then it once again was given to me and since then I have been active in my vigilance to progress the Anarch genre in my game, for SOTJ is one of the few Anarch genre games in the Org. To this date, I am SOTJ's HST. I am currently Council Member for SOTJ and I have been active on various propositions within the last few months. I also was able to volunteer for a sub cord position on Team Anarch serving the Chicagoland region, and since Andrew stepped down, I have been acting as Interim Anarch Coordinator. Outside of game, I am a professional entertainer who runs his own business and I maintain client relations with several different contracts, so I have a attention to maintaining contact relations with many different people but also I am insanely efficient when it comes to multitasking.

Personal Statement:
As a HST for Shadows Of The Jewel, an Anarch game, I have a vested interest in maintaing the strength of the Anarch Genre and to make sure that that it does not turn Diet Camarilla (all the flavor, half the Bloodhunts). One of my first tasks will be to make an Anarch Packet that will consist of Reputation "guidelines", a history of Anarch's in OWBN (a task that I hope will open lines of communication and further strengthen the Anarch Genre.), as well as to identify a who's who in the Movement. Another project of mine will be to get as many Anarch's on to the National Anarch email list and foster, not force, national role play and connections. To make the OWBN Anarchs truely an Anarch Movement. The Camarilla propaganda of Anarchs is the general consensus of how to run Anarch. But, it can be so much more. Anarch Genre should be representative of the Movement, it should move like the political revolution machines of the 1960s. The ideal is not to ram Genre down everyone's throat, but to let people know that there is one than just one way to play Anarch. The goals I have set for my term of service in office are to collect information, bring it into a cohesive unit to further the genre, and distribute the information as efficiently as possible. It is my belief that this position has much potential that until now has remained untapped.

Your OWbN Gaming/Administrative Background:

I started running a World of Darkness LARP in Philadelphia in 1991.
That's the year the tabletop game came out, and before the live-action
rules were even published. Following that, I was one of four founders
of a troupe game that ran for six and a half years in Philadelphia -
running from more than a hundred players a session, to forty or so.

I started in One World By Night in the Philadelphia: Nusquam game on
the very same session they joined the organization officially, in
2002. I've been an active member of the organization since then, and
the HST for La Sangre de Los Angeles for the past two years - and AST
for six months before that. I've served as Giovanni sub-coord for
three different Giovanni coords. I'm also the West Coast Assamite
sub-coord. I've been working as West Coast Anarch Sub-coord since the
last round of elections.

Personal Statement:
Anarchs get a bad rap in One World by Night. They're seen as teeming
witless masses of bomb-chuckers and trouble-makers. And while that's
true for SOME of them (I'm looking at you, Brer Rabbit!) but there's
a large movement of anarchs who are principled, thoughtful, and
philosophical. Ok, they might make trouble and chuck bombs too, but
that's more of a sideline. (I'm looking at you, Joe Barclay!) It can
only benefit both the IC Anarch movement, as well as OOC anarch
players, to encourage and stimulate serious discussion about what it
means to be an Anarch, and what the nature of Freedom is.

There are essentially three "flavors" of anarchs - Status Prefectus
anarchs, Convention of Thorns anarchs, and pure Anarchist anarchs. All
three find common cause under a banner that meets some of the needs of
each, but all of the needs of none. If Anarch players are encouraged
to question and consider what their Anarch-ness means other than pure
opposition to the Camarilla or Sabbat, it will stimulate roleplay
amongst Anarch players, help define individual characters, and
generally elevate the tone of games across the Org.

Further, the Anarch "NPC's" are nothing like Justicars or horrible
ancient powers. In general Anarchs are younger and less powerful than
other Kindred - and this is no less true of their influential members
who have come to prominence by charisma and savvy (and White Wolf
canon) rather than by power and wooj. The three most noteworthy Anarch
NPC's, Smiling Jack, Jeremy MacNeil, and Crispus Attucks, are not
themselves even half as powerful as a typical Camarilla or Sabbat
elder. It is therefore doubly important to encourage strong
roleplaying amongst Anarch players - if it comes down to RPS instead
of RP, the Anarchs are likely to lose. Anarchs are more than just a
meat shield between Camarilla and Sabbat - and if they are content to
stay in that role, they will be limited far more than their potential
would allow.

My goals for the coming year, then: To promote more clearly the "Three
Flavors of Anarch" by presenting the case for each clearly to Anarch
players (and interested non- Anarch players) and encouraging them to
debate. To find (or if necessary, use NPC) PC representative of each
of those philosophies. To have Anarch characters choose for themselves
a method of deciding which philosophy to present as their "official
position". To make that decision. To present that decision to an
appropriate gathering of Camarilla or Sabbat It's also my intent to
codify and publish a One World by Night Anarch canon, explicitly
detailing what happens, and how it differs from Whitle Wolf genre.

There's a lot of anarchs out there, and they're more than just thugs,
troublemakers and bad boys. I'd like to see the genre flourish as a
viable alternative to the Big Two in its own right, as well as a foil
to Camarilla and Sabbat.
