Dust and sand from the former Ford Plant was whipped up by the high winds on April 1st.

Local residents reported the sky went black as the winds lifted the sand into the air and blew it north across Ford parkway into the residential areas. Several people with respiratory problems were hospitalized. The EPA is investigating to see if any contaminated soil was released. A spokesperson for the demolition company reported

“All precautions were taken to keep contamination contained. The soil that was blown in the wind was top cover and new fill.” The Neighborhood Spokesman said “This is unacceptable. A solution to this will have to be found before we get into summer.”
