2018 - Head Coord - Danielle Frink
Introduction and Background:
Well, that may have been the fastest four months in recent memory!!
As a 22-year veteran of One World By Night, I have been privileged to watch this org grow from the loose confederation of a handful of games to the current group of over 100 chronicles that work together to maintain a fun and sociable environment for our players. It has been a wild ride, but I like to think that we are still growing into something that will allow this zany experiment to go on for a long time to come.
I've worn many hats in my real life, but I think it's my experience as a mom that has helped me most as a volunteer for OWbN. My son is no longer a child (dear God, help me, he turns 21 this year!), but I think he has grown into a pretty level-headed, fair and fun adult. Toddlerhood and the dreaded teenage years helped hone my skills as a (mostly) neutral voice of reason, and I also learned a lot simply helping him grow through his own unique challenges. Sometimes all I could offer or he would allow was a sympathetic ear, but every once and a while, I had the chance to share some of my hard-earned wisdom (a.k.a. experience).
My second most useful skill is the ability to facilitate direct communication, which benefits a great deal from my years of study - and eventual degree in - journalism. During a reporter's education, the concept of putting aside one's own perceptions is deeply ingrained. And while I may occasionally stumble in my efforts to be unbiased, I do my level best, and am not afraid to acknowledge when I make a mistake. Journalist etiquette 101: People won't talk to you if they don't trust you, and you'll never be effective at keeping the public informed if you don't have their trust.

Bem, esses podem ter sido os quatro meses mais rápidos na memória recente !!
Como um veterano de 22 anos do One World By Night, tive o privilégio de observar esta organização crescer da confederação solta de um punhado de jogos para o atual grupo de mais de 100 crônicas que trabalham juntas para manter um ambiente divertido e sociável para a nossa jogadoras. Foi um passeio selvagem, mas eu gosto de pensar que ainda estamos crescendo em algo que permitirá que este experimento zany continue por um longo período de tempo.
Eu usei muitos chapéus na minha vida real, mas acho que é minha experiência como uma mãe que me ajudou mais como voluntária da OWbN. Meu filho não é mais uma criança (querido Deus, ajude-me, ele ganha 21 anos este ano!), Mas acho que ele cresceu em um adulto bonito de nível, justo e divertido. Toddlerhood e a terrível adolescência ajudaram a aprimorar minhas habilidades como uma voz (principalmente) neutra da razão, e eu também aprendi muito simplesmente ajudando-o a crescer através de seus próprios desafios únicos. Às vezes, tudo o que eu poderia oferecer ou ele permitiria era um ouvido simpático, mas de vez em quando eu tive a chance de compartilhar algumas das minhas sabedoria devida (experiência).
A minha segunda habilidade mais útil é a capacidade de facilitar a comunicação direta, o que beneficia muito dos meus anos de estudo - e eventual grau de jornalismo. Durante a educação de um repórter, o conceito de deixar de lado as próprias percepções está profundamente enraizado. E enquanto eu ocasionalmente tropeçar em meus esforços para ser imparcial, eu faço o meu melhor nível, e não tenho medo de reconhecer quando cometo um erro. Etiqueta de jornalista 101: as pessoas não vão falar com você se elas não confiam em você, e você nunca será eficaz para manter o público informado se você não tiver confiança.

Personal Statement:
Now that I have spent some time as a full member of the Executive Team, I have a much more realistic perspective of the time demands upon the Head Coordinator and Assistant HCs. While I would still like to help the org refine some of its rough edges - condensing and clarifying the bylaws, fine-tuning both the Code of Conduct and the Disciplinary Policy - I understand now that the majority of the Head Coordinator's time is spent investigating situations and conducting mediations. My number one goal as a Head Coordinator is to reduce the number for disciplinary actions by conducting successful mediations and thoroughly investigating all complaints before proceeding to Council. On the rare chance that a player places others in physical jeopardy, through actual assaults or inappropriate contact, I will act decisively but rely on Council's judgment to handle the long-term results of such situations.
I do not claim to have a perfect understanding or neutral mindset, but I believe that my experience, both in and out of the org, have made me the current best choice for Head Coordinator. I cannot state strongly enough how vital it is for there to be continuity of maintenance in the Executive Team. Having been added to the team in the middle of a term, I understand the steep learning curve, and hopefully have overcome most of those stumbling blocks during my tenure as AHC.
Personal Statement (Portuguese):
Agora que passei algum tempo como membro de pleno direito da Equipe Executiva, tenho uma perspectiva muito mais realista das demandas de tempo para o Coordenador Principal e Assistentes HC. Embora eu ainda gostaria de ajudar a organização a refinar algumas de suas bordas difíceis - condensando e esclarecendo os estatutos, ajustando o Código de Conduta e a Política Disciplinar - eu entendo agora que a maioria do tempo do Coordenador de Cabeça é gasto investigando situações e realizando mediações. Meu objetivo número um como coordenador principal é reduzir o número de ações disciplinares através da realização de mediações bem-sucedidas e investigar minuciosamente todas as queixas antes de proceder ao Conselho. Com a rara chance de um jogador colocar outros em perigo físico, por meio de assaltos reais ou contato indesejado, vou agir de forma decisiva, mas confiar no julgamento do Conselho para lidar com os resultados a longo prazo de tais situações.
Não pretendo ter uma compreensão perfeita ou uma mentalidade neutra, mas acredito que minha experiência, dentro e fora da organização, me fez a melhor escolha atual para o Coordenador de Cabeça. Não consigo declarar suficientemente forte o quão vital é para que haja continuidade de manutenção na equipe executiva. Tendo sido adicionado à equipe no meio de um termo, eu entendo a curva de aprendizado íngreme, e espero ter superado a maioria desses obstáculos durante meu mandato como AHC.
Goals:
I feel like the org suffers a great deal from trust issues, often related to regional or play-style differences. Ultimately, I feel it is the job of the Head Coordinator to set the pace for the entire org, and to do their best to make sure to coordinate and support a world-wide organization. I hope to set a positive pace for the incoming coordinator team, by helping facilitate communication between them, and between individual chronicles. Over the next two years, I also plan to engage the community in discussions about the bylaws - how to make them accessible and comprehensible to all players and games - and the Code of Conduct - how to address community concerns without creating open-ended rules that can be used as weapons as opposed to protective measures.

Eu sinto que a organização sofre muito por questões de confiança, muitas vezes relacionadas a diferenças regionais ou de estilo de jogo. Em última análise, sinto que é tarefa do Coordenador Principal estabelecer o ritmo de toda a organização e fazer o seu melhor para se certificar de coordenar e apoiar uma organização mundial. Espero estabelecer um ritmo positivo para a equipe de coordenadores recebentes, ajudando a facilitar a comunicação entre eles e entre cronicas individuais. Nos próximos dois anos, também planejo envolver a comunidade em discussões sobre os estatutos - como torná-los acessíveis e compreensíveis para todos os jogadores e jogos - e o Código de Conduta - como lidar com preocupações da comunidade sem criar regras abertas que podem ser usados como armas em oposição a medidas de proteção.
