2018 - AHC 1 - Benjamin Colbert
Introduction and Background:
Good Morning, Afternoon and Evening fellow members of One World by Night. My name is Ben, and for the third time I am again seeking to be elected as the Assistant Head Coordinator for our Organization. Per request, I must open saying that yes, Alison approved me running again, and I will submit baby pictures upon request.
You, the Org, elected me for the past two years to be part of the Executive Team. It has certainly had its ups and down. I cannot lie that it has always been pleasant, easy or even fun, but I knew that walking in, and I know it even more now. Yet knowing all I know, having seen all I have seen, I continue to believe in the position, believe in One World by Night, and believe I can still provide a service to this shared hobby which I have enjoyed for nearly 20 years.
In my day to day job (or day to night to what time is it again? to be more exact), I am a manager for Homeowner, Condominium and Townhome Association's. I work with Boards of Directors, follow Robert's Rules of Order, review By-Laws, attend court, and mediate disputes. I use the same skillset at work as I have as a member of Exec - my 'specialty' was mediation for the prior two years. I plan on bringing the same skillsets to the table to assist in dispute resolution and, as this is now a two year time, hopefully clarify some of the By-Law concerns that have been uncovered during my tenure as a member of the Executive team.

Bom dia, boa tarde e boa noite, pessoal do One World by Nigth. Meu nome é Ben, e pela terceiro vez eu busco a eleição como Coordenador Geral Assistente para a nossa organização. Já que foi requisitado, sim, Alisson aprovou que eu concoresse novamente e postarei fotos do bebê quando solicitado.
Vocês, da Org, me elegeram nos ultimos dois anos para compor o Executivve Team. Certamente deve seus altos e baixos. Nao posso mentir e dizer que foi sempre agradavel, fácil ou mesmo diverdito, mas eu sabia no que estava me metendo, e agora sei ainda mais. Ainda assim, sabendo o que sei e tendo visto o que vi, continuo a acreditar na posição, continuo a acreditar no One World by Nigth e acredito que eu ainda posso prover um bom trabalho neste nosso hobby compartilhado, do qual eu tenho desfrutado por quase 20 anos.
No meu trabalho do dia a dia (ou dia pra noite…que horas são agora? Para ser mais exato), eu sou um director da Homeowner, Condominium and Townhome Association's. Eu trabalho com o Conselho Diretor, sigo as regras do ordenamento, reviso regulamentos, vou a sessões judiciais e medio disputas. Eu uso as mesmas habilidades do meu trabalho como membro do Exec: minha ‘especialidade’ foi mediação por dois anos. Pretendo trazer o mesmo conjunto de habilidades para auxiliar na resolução de disputas, e, como tem sido nos ultimos dois anos, ajudar a clarificar algumas das inconsistencias do By Laws que foram descobertas durante o meu mandato como membro do Executive Team.

Personal Statement:
I thought long and hard before I agree to run again. With the arrival of the Manatee (Bastian, my Son), I've had to look and weigh my time commitments. I continue to feel that perhaps my most important volunteer position was as the Assistant Head Coordinator. I would call the Team on a regular basis as I was driving all over the DC/VA/MD area, discuss emails and concerns and give input. I am proud of what we tried to accomplish. Were people always happy with our rulings? No, but that is typically impossible when you have two people at opposing ends. We were always perfect? No, we are human. But I can say I tried to the best of our ability to do the correct thing. It is never easy, as there are a lot of emotions which go into mediations, disputes or DAs. But at the end of the day, I try to remember that there are people on the other side of the screen, just trying to get their point across while we do the same. Ensuring the humanity of the Org is very important to me, which I suppose is very fitting.
Personal Statement (Portuguese):
Eu pensei bastante e profundamente antes de concordar em concorrer novamente. Com a chegada no Manati (Bastien, meu filho), eu tive de olhar e avaliar meus compromissos de tempo. Eu continuo a sentir que talvez a minha posição mais importante tenha sido a de Coordenador Geral Assistente. Eu costumava ligar para o time quando eu estava dirigindo pela área de DC/VA/MD regularmente, discutir e-mails e preocupações e dar opinião. Tenho orgulho do que tentamos fazer. As pessoas ficarem felizes todas as vezes com nossas decisoes? Não, mas isso usualmente é impossivel quando você tem pessoas em lados opostos. Nos fomos sempre perfeitos? Não, nos somos humanos. Mas eu posso dizer que eu sempre tentei, com o melhor de minhas habilidades, fazer a coisa certa. Nem sempre foi facil, ja que geralmente tem muita emoção misturada que vai junto com as mediações, disputas ou ações disciplinas. Mas no final, eu tento lembrar que sao pessoas do outro lado da tela, apenas tentando chegar a seus objetivos, ao passo que nos fazemos o mesmo. Assegurar a humanidade dentro da Org é algo muito importante para mim, e é algo que suponho que é muito adequado.
