2014 - 2014 Special Elections - Giovanni - Bryan Card
Introduction and Background:
First off, allow me to thank you for taking a few minutes to review my application. Stepping forward and taking a more active role in support of One World by Night is something I’ve been considering for quite a while. Hugo’s decision to step down to address other priorities simply forced me to make that decision earlier than anticipated. I’m very excited about the future of the Giovanni in OWbN!
Please, don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions, comments or concerns you may have for me.
Thanks!
Bryan

One World by Night was my introduction into role playing in 1997. Less than five minutes in play, I was locked in Eyes of the Serpent, staring down a pack of Setites led by Martin Bosworth. My first thought was “This is awesome!” I was hooked immediately, and haven’t looked back since. Since then I’ve been involved as a player on both the local and national level, as a narrator for several games, as a Storyteller in Baltimore by Night: Dark Harbor, and as a Sub-Coordinator for multiple offices. There’s a running joke that I hold the record for most Sub-Coordinator support in OWbN.

Personal Statement:
I want to work with chronicles, storytellers, narrators, and players to create something amazing for our community. I feel like too often we stake out opposing positions and demonize anyone who doesn’t agree with us instead of striving to compromise. I’m committed to helping chronicles come up with what’s best for their piece of our shared world.
I believe I am uniquely qualified for this position. I have years of experience administrating and supporting One World by Night’s unique genre. I have organized and cleaned up blood magic approval records for four different paradigms now.
As Giovanni Coordinator, I will work tirelessly to provide and improve the resources necessary to get the most out the rich genre. I will expect and demand a similar effort from my Sub-Coordinators. Our storytellers and players deserve no less.
Giovanni, more than any other genre, are a family. This simple fact represents the thread that binds a disparate group of cutthroat capitalists, vile necromancers, Mafioso thugs, and a cabal of minor families. As Giovanni Coordinator I will kick off a dialog in respect to the differing clan positions and the importance of bringing the Family aspect back. I will take steps to ensure that my players can attend event games confident that they will have plot and purpose available to them. I will strengthen the relationship between the office of Giovanni Coordinator and that of the Wraith Coordinator and Tremere Coordinator in order to support existing plot and to create new plot opportunities for the players to explore.
Giovanni are also not the sole genre that the office supports. For too long, Samedi and Harbinger of Skulls genre has been tossed to the side. These players deserve every bit as much support from the Giovanni Coordinator as any Giovanni PC. I will work to strengthen relationships with the Camarilla, Anarch, and Sabbat Coordinators to ensure that these players have the support they need to succeed in their chosen genres.
Personal Statement (Portuguese):
Goals:
Recognizing that I’d be stepping in mid-term, here are what I feel are the most pressing issues for the genre:
- Assemble and empower a dedicated staff of Sub-coordinators to provide hands on support to Storytellers and players.
- Propose an updated Giovanni genre packet to Council within 60 days
- Propose an updated Harbinger of Skulls genre packet to Council
- Propose an updated Samedi genre packet to Council
- Address the concerns raised during the recent debate regarding the proposed Necromancy Packet before proposing an improved version to Council.
- Compile and propose a non-binding Necromancy resource addressing the paradigm’s custom created content.
- Rebuild the current approval system from the ground up with a focus on organization.
In conclusion, I look forward to the opportunity to keep the exquisite complexity of the current Giovanni canon and reshape areas of opportunity. Throughout the history of our organization, the players have generated and energized each of the genres that the Giovanni office supports.
I look forward to hearing feedback from the players on how to make improve their experiences with their characters and the Giovanni office. Let's work together create a renaissance for the genre. I look forward to our conversations and to implementing my goals with along with my empowered staff. Thank you for taking the time to read this and please don't hesitate to reach out to me for with any questions.
If I don't hear from you before then, I'll see you at Nonclave!
