Introduction and Background:

I have served as Marketing Coordinator for OWbN for 3 years, and am just crazy enough to want to do it for another 2.

Some background on me;

I have been a member of OWbN since approximately 1996.  In that time I have made lifelong friendships and even added to my family.  One World by Night became a part of my life when I needed it the most, likely saving my life in the process.  I have been passionate about the organization for a majority of my time here and I want to bring that same passion to new and old players alike.

I’m back in college yet again, this time working on my BA in Communications.  I bring my education, past and future, to help OWbN to continue grow.

And for the “Tell the group three things about you” section of the application!

I am a Crazy Cat Lady™, obsessed with cows, and have a terrible mouth.

Administrative Experience:

In OWbN I have been a Coordinator, Subcoordinator, HST, AST, and Narrator.  Professionally I work for a large company where I’m required to self-motivate and complete tasks while keeping others on task as well.  I enjoy teaching and empowering others to do tasks on their own, from personal life to professional.

Personally I am almost always a student.  I have a ridiculous amount of college credit and certifications in Google Analytics, Content Marketing, Social Media Marketing and more.  Marketing as a field is always changing.  Effective strategies that work today may be useless tomorrow.  Continuing education is essential to remain current on methods and avenues of marketing.

Personal Statement:

In the last 3 years, we (Team Marketing) have accomplished quite a few things.

  • Increased traffic to our social media pages
  • Created packets for new players in several Vampire genres.
  • Created the OWbN Passports (credit on that one should go to Marion Birdsell who came up with the idea.)  We also manufacture the Passports, and the stickers that go with them.
  • Created genre specific OWbN Logos along with Tshirts and other items bearing those logos.
  • Provide premade flyers for local games to advertise in their areas.
  • Created the Marketing website, with information, resources and blogs all to help new players and game staff.
  • Started a Google Form for games wanting assistance with event advertising.
  • Work with leadership of other LARP organizations to create an atmosphere of collaboration and cooperation among LARPers as a whole.
  • Created a document for event staff to churn up interest in their upcoming events.
  • Created a document for players who want to help out with Team Marketing but aren’t able to commit to a full position on the team.
  • The Monthly Newsletter was one of my favorite ideas.  It has been an on and off relationship.  The publishing of the newsletter is actually a lot of work and isn’t always able to be completed.  I hope to find a better system to help ensure it is released more regularly.

Goals:

Goals (Portuguese):

Some items that weren’t scratched off my Coord bucket list just yet;
• Garou, Changeling, and Mage New Player Packets.
• Downloadable packs for STs on how to advertise that includes templates and resource information.
• Many, many blog posts on myriad topics including Advertising, Costuming on the Cheap, Site Decorations on the Cheap, and Player Retention.
• Possible redesign on our main website, it is a massive chore so I’m not putting any campaign promises here.  It is something I would like to accomplish if it becomes possible.
• Items for local games to advertise added to Marketing’s web store, with New Player Packets, logo decals and more.  Ideally packs will be listed in bundles that will allow us to offset some of the cost of making the items and the shipping costs.  Marketing does not turn a profit, we pour all funds we receive back in to our efforts.
• Finding a better system for event game swag to be sent to the various staffs.
• My long outstanding New Storyteller Packet (this one has sort of become my white whale but it’s gonna get caught this term!)
• Videos!  Our YouTube has been a sad barren place for far too long.
Assuming I win, I will be looking for more subcoords.  I need people who can write, photo edit, video edit, draw, design, proof-read, smile a lot and look professional, and use the Customer Service Voice™.  Many of my future plans are bigger and more ambitious than previous ones and I’ll need all the help I can get.  I would love to have people from all over, so we don’t over or under represent any one area.  I’ll shut up about that for now, but if I win know that I will return and with a greater number of demands.
