I, Jen Salty, in my Duties as Mage Coordinator of One World by Night and the support of the Hunter Coordinator Raff propose the following Packet for the Mage Genre.

This proposal is made in accordance with the Coordinator Bylaw 3.C.iii.Genre Coordinators must pass before Council any plot, R&U bylaw revision, R&U named characters, Coordinator-NPC Character Resurrections, territory requests, in character enforced policy, or in character binding edict they wish to use which they can reasonably expect to affect multiple chronicles and these proposals follow the Autopass Vote Procedure.

Packet Changes:

This packet is mostly new. I have not added any mechanical strictures or changes that have not already been passed the previous Mage packets.

It includes:

  • Guidance for running story involving and/or Playing Sorcerers

  • A compendium of Sorcery Training Organizations (Current, major, minor, & defunct) and a short blurb about their flavor, organization, specialties, etc. pulled from genre

  • Guidelines for Inclusive play

  • A Mechanics section (based on Rules of the Hunt (Revised) mechanics) including cheat sheets

  • Optional Paradox Rule for Sorcery (at Storyteller request)

  • A list of the Paths of Sorcery, what they do, and suggestions for balance.

  • Psychic Abilities Overview, and how it balances with Sorcery

  • A list of Psychic Abilities and what they do

  • Optional Rules on Enchanting & Alchemy and Hung Magic review from past Mage Packet

  • Guidance for Problem Sorcery: more or less general advice addressing regular questions that get asked of us concerning Sorcery and how to handle certain problematic facets in the org

Justification:

Sorcerers have had very little attention within the org, and by and large the org is resistant to any kind of controls. I understand that. I have seen the Hunter Coordinator attempt to pass things and watched it voted down with the comments, “The Mage Coordinator should do this.” Then I have attempted to do things and seen some of the same CMs write, “The Hunter Coordinator should do this.”

So this I worked on and sent for approval from the Hunter Coordinator. It is mostly a genre packet that also reprises the previous approved guidelines for Sorcerers approved in previous Mage packets. Its main goal is to give Sorcerers some fluff to grow around. They don’t have to change their characters or DO anything, it just gives them and their Storytellers more toys to play with. Psychic Abilities were put in there as well because of the extreme overlap they seem to have with Sorcerers in the Org. Since there is a player overlap and a lot of the same genre applies to them (especially as concerns how mages and technocrats treat them), for ease of look-up, they were put in the same place.

There are no limitations currently in this packet that were not already in existence, although there is repeated guidance that already was written in previous approved packets about limiting alchemy and enchanting item distribution in certain ways. This packet is not binding. It is simply intended to be a tool for players and staff to make their playing of Sorcerer more flavorful and give more options for playing.
