I, Jen Salty, in my Duties as Mage Coordinator of One World by Night propose the following Packet for the Mage Genre.

This proposal is made in accordance with the Coordinator Bylaw 3.C.iii.Genre Coordinators must pass before Council any plot, R&U bylaw revision, R&U named characters, Coordinator-NPC Character Resurrections, territory requests, in character enforced policy, or in character binding edict they wish to use which they can reasonably expect to affect multiple chronicles and these proposals follow the Autopass Vote Procedure.

Packet Changes:

This packet is a complete revision from the old Mage Packet, with the previous packets’ old recommendations retained and expanded upon.

  • Added broad overview section, including explanations of terms from previous packets

  • Added recommendations for running Correspondence in line with other genres

  • Added a section on Quintessence & Nodes, including obligatory comparison to Caerns

  • Clarified Paradox section for running in a LARP session

  • Added conversion guide for converting mechanics between TT & M20 and MET

  • Added a Mage Lore guide

  • Expanded the Optional Rules section to include a clarification/guidance for limitations on Grades of Success

  • Expanded the Guidance for Problem Rotes & Mechanics section

    • Added notation if “problem rotes” are generally proprietary for ST ease

    • Added a section on Resurrection Rotes, as these near bylaw breech if done after a certain amount of time.

    • Added a section on Seduction Rotes, as these breech bylaw if done without consent

    • Added a section on Rotes that are technically disallowed as they (it) forces the mage into a state not supported by bylaw (lichdom)

Justification:

This packet reflects the major changes that Mage players and STs have asked for across my tenure to be reflected in a packet as far as mechanical clarifications reflected in packet format. Yes, it is mostly expansion and clarification of words that people struggled with - for example, there is a side panel on direct vs. indirect damage. Direct and indirect damage was discussed in the previous packet. I was asked several times what do those words mean, and why do these numbers apply differently when in those different states? I want to do more damage, so how do I make sure that my damage is direct? Therefore, in this packet, direct and indirect damage are defined before the rule is given. I understand that strategy adds pages; if it clarifies things, I’m okay with extra pages.

A large portion of the expansion was actually the problem rotes & mechanics section; this section is where I added rotes that broke bylaws added since the last packet was passed or rotes that I was asked questions about during or after stressful situations because STs saw repeated problems from players and asked how to handle them. If they happened often, in multiple settings, or were especially egregious, I made notes and added them as problem mechanics in order to assist future staffs so that they could avoid similar problems. No situations are mentioned, no examples are given. Only the problem rote and balancing strategy is included. Often I looked up similar rotes that could present with the same issue in order make as helpful a guide as possible for Storytellers.
